It is just a case of taking the time to reduce the surface imperfections using paper from about 220 all the way to a wet sand of 200 grit.

Using a good primer/sandable filler works wonders with small surface imperfections.

If Al Reed is just using Wurths Satin Black, like nearly everyone else on the board I don't see how his methods, or results can be much different.

Except if it comes to painting things like centre crests and polishing wheels ie: things that take a bit of skill.

My wheels came up perfect, just like they were when they were new.

Not true. I've seen a set of wheels done by A Reed and I would unequivically say mine are better. His had numerous fine scratches under the clearcoating. That said, his prices are very reasonable.

Wow. 89911, could you run down the steps it would take to get Fuchs looking so great? I've got some time this summer to take the wheels off and start the project.
Also, if you don't anodize the nuts, how can you avoid putting scratches into the paint?

You really need to get them anodized or they will scratch like mine did if you paint them. (I knew they would scratch a bit, but the still look better than when I started as they were nearly silver).

Pelican sell a wheel spanner which as a nylon inner, which is supposed to stop scratching on anodized nuts.

I think I will get one next order and buy some new nuts.

This is definetly a "search the prior post" topic, since it has been covered to the point of exhaustion. Type Fuch and refinishing and you will see 100's of post, many mine If you have no experience with bare metal polishing, it may be better to send them out, since many underestimate the labor involved. Here is a few pics of the refinishing of my 8's and 9's.

I'm with you in the fact that bare metal polishing isnt for everyone, but the time involved and the satisfaction of a job as good as or better than Al Reed is "wurth" it to me.
I am currently searching for a set of 8's, and going to to the full paddle polish like yours. Your set looks beautiful, especially like the center caps. What was your method on those?

How do you de-crome the wheels? How do you make sure the wheels are trued?
