Over use of Techron

Can it be possible for one to over use Techron? Would monthly or bi-monthly use of it be "over use?"

And if one can over use Techron, what would be the ill effects?

Thanks Guys!

Good question, no answer

I have wondered about this also.

Could high concentrations of fuel injector cleaner degrade the life of say the rubber diaphragm in a CIS WUR?

No, Todd. I don't usually change the oil when I use techron. I change the oil once, maybe twice a year. Actually, I've heard changing the oil is really not necessary after techron is added. It seems that's an old wives' tale.

I always run the Techron before an oil change. The tale is 2 bottles contaminate your oil. It was, maybe still is, written on the bottle.

The Techron warning printed on the bottle is "not more than 5 times between oil changes"

Reading the bottle label is like doing a search before posting a question....

I also use Techron about 1000 miles before an oil change.

I have found, by far, the best fuel system cleaner to be, STP Complete Fuel System Cleaner. It comes in a silver bottle, and says " Do not use more than once every 4,000 miles" This stuff has always cured detonation problems in older cars. And if you use it once every 5,000 miles, I do not believe that it will hurt anyting. By my personal opinion is that any moden fuel inject Porsche does not really need a fuel system cleaner as the are intenden to remove cabon deposits in older cars. Most modern Porsches (mine being an 87 I feel is modern) have very efficient combustion and therefore carbon build up in not really a problem. My emission tests are always very clean. But then again my car only has 19,000 miles. I would guess that when my car gets to around 60,000 miles and start to burn some oil, then a fuel system cleaner might be useful. Until then, I will just by good gas.

A mechanic once told me that the reason that they say to not use more than once every 4-5,000 miles is that the stuff is to your fuel system what "Drano" is to your pipes, its caustic, or acidic, so to speak. I'm not sure which, and that with repeated use it eats up (etches) the surfaces that it comes in contact with. The mileage thing is so that your fuel system/engine doesn't expire prematurely. Don't know if this is true or not, but there you are.

all I know is I dump a bottle in and fill up the tank, then run it down, then change the oil. And the oil smells much different after Techron than not. So something is in there...

Oil contamination is probably less of an issue on a car that takes 11 quarts for an oil change vs. a car that takes five.
