I don't have any pictures handy, but I've seen them without tails and it looks very cool. It looks even sinister if you have some 315 rubber. Keep you eyes out for a plain decklid or perhaps fiberglass and then you can swap them depending on your mood.....Just like Jack

Hmm, I really like the tailess look. Perhaps there's a future for a homeless deck lid.

I think wide+no tail= really highlights the 911 shape.

When I was younger, I only liked 911s with tails. Now, the tail-less look is more attractive too me. I guess it's because every other vehicle from sub-compacts to pick-ups have spoilers these days. I remember seening a charcoal grey widebody with stock decklid in VW-Porsche magazine and thought it was just beautiful.

I have that mag still! I remember they de-turbo'ed a 930, put on webers, made it a 3.5.

When I was a kid, I thought it was crazy to get rid of "the best part" of a 911T. Now, every time I see s subaru with a biplane, I understand why they did it!

Damn it Jack! That does look sweet! I had a dream of my car just like that the night I wrote this post. Now I am curious if it would look even more sleek with C2 bumpers? (I kind of don't like my tail to be honest) I was thinking an S retractable spoiler would be sweet!

Find a picture of the 89 Speedster. It had the Turbo bodywork. It's of course a cabrio, but it's a tail-less widebody nonetheless.

If nobody can come up with one, i'll scan a picture from a book at home.

Just go to Ebay and search on Speedster in the 911 Ebay Motors section. There are currently 3 up for auction.

I figured the speedster would be a good source, but I wanted to see the complete picture of a coupe.

If you're thinking of the retractable tail from a 993 S, it won't work. You can only use a 964 decklid/tail, and I don't think there was ever a split-grille configuration available for the 964.

Are just the "retractable tail" interchangable? I really like the split grill look

I don't believe they are -- although with enough work, anything's possible.

I think a widebody coupe without the tail is the best looking of all 911s!

That Red 911 above is a perfect example.

Perfect!

BRG, you're just dying to mess with that beautiful car aren't you! I know, it's a disease! I haven't had my car much more than a month, and I've already done lots of little things to it (tinted the windows-not so much for looks as to protect the interior, 7's & 8s', stereo, etc.). I actually want to get a tail for mine (and chin spoiler), but I do like the 964 tail idea (a-la Jack O.)
