I preobably could get you a 2.2 L E MFI co,mplete setup. It was working when pulled from a 71 911 e. It is at the shop I use. I am sure he would be willing to sell it. It includes throttle bodies, l;ines linkages etc. Since it has been stored for several years work would have to be done on it, but if you truly have a 2.2 E it might work. Of course you know that there is no 2.2L "69 E". The 2.2 L is for 1970-1971 model year. The car may have been made in 1969 but if the motor is original then it is a 1970 model year. Sounds like a PO put a 2.2 in a 69 as a replacement engine. You can e-mail me if you are interested in the MFI setup.

The other number on the right side of the fan casing is 6291272 , I hope someone can clarify.
It would be nice to have a compatible 911S engine, but I suspect it is the original 911E one, based on registration documents. Rgds Peter |

That engine would seem to be a 1969 Type 901/09 2.0E ... unless larger 84 mm pistons and cylinders were fitted. That would complicate tuning/adjusting a 2.2S MFI pump, and I doubt that it is within an acceptable adjustment range to run properly!

If someone has worked/rebuilt the motor it is difficult to tell what parts are in there, eg maybe they have used 84mm S pistons to go with the pump. Might be worth getting it on a dyno/rolling road and see what the results are. That will give you a BHP reading and also the amount of CO readings throughout the rev range.

LOL.... i've been away from the board for a couple of weeks and theres a search party out for me.

My cars limping over to England next Thursday to get the torsion tube replaced...damn gremlins. Warren, this was not the answer I expected. I can only hope that there was a job done on reboring the engine. I am sure there is no easy way to check this ?
The use of dyno would give a good indication of the model performance profile, however if the car needs to be setup in the first instance this could get complicated. PS Have touched base with Sean and we are from the same 'neck of the woods' in Dublin. |

Guys, is it possible to ID the size of pistons & cylinders by looking at/for casting numbers on the cylinder heads? Maybe a different approach to uncovering the true characteristics of this engine. Or maybe just wishful thinking.

Found piston ring info
I only have some history material going back to 1995 on this car, nothing about rebore of engine during this period, however I have receipt for Goetze Piston Ring set part number 08-320700-10 from South London Piston Ltd, no longer contactable.
........ Eventually tracked down Goetze distributor in UK and it would appear that the piston rings are specific to 911 and are for an 80mm cylinder. ![]() What is the best I can hope for, when it comes to tuning this car.
