No idle ? 930 3.3

well I think Ihave gone full circle. I put in a new fuel distbutor because mine was frozen shut. While I was there a new cold start valve. W.U.R. seems o.k. new plugs/wires. Fixed the c/d so it works properly. Pull out # 1 plug and timed engine. Now it does not seem to be getting gas,if I push down on the airvalve near the fueldistributor it will run for a couple of seconds. I replaced most of the vacum lines and have put in a new fuel filter. If I have some one play with the throttle and I push on the air flap I can sort of make it run. I also hear a flap slaming shut every time I take my foot off the throttle is that normal? All I can think of is wrong fuel delivery to the fuel distributor. Am I right? Is it time for single malt scotch and a new hobby or bombay saphire martini, straight up or on the rocks?

Wow, that's a mess. Start troubleshooting. Start with spark, put on an extra plug wire and see if you have continual fire. Dis. fuel line after filter and put a can in there to see if it pumps fuel. You can get your pumps to run by discon. the blue plug on back the " air valve" actual name escapes my mind. Start there and tell us more. We can fix it for God's sake. We are Doctors. ps, prepare in advance for future heavy drinking. pss, just think of how fun to drive it will be when we get'er go'in. brian

I can fill a large soda bottle in a few seconds with gas. If I get it going it will run real rough at 3000 rpm and up but come down on rpms and back fire and stalling . I am a pretty good mechanic and this drives me crazy. Do you think the ecm is bad ? I put a rebuilt in about a month ago when I bouhgt the car. The old owner gave me a estimate from his previous mechanic saying it was bad.It also has been sitting for four years.

Don't throw any more parts at the car. You need CIS gauges (so do I) and you need to test the pressures per the factory shop manual at all points.

The brain under the drivers seat. The guy I bought the car from left the sunroof open and it must have shorted out.

Gotcha, it's a later model 930 (86-89) Should be some test procedures for it. John Walker must be on Vacation. Get a volt meter and get readings from it. Hopefully someone will respond with more data. I would lean against that as a problem simply due to the fact that you can at times keep it running. I suggest CIS testing. brian

Quick check per the shop manual. make sure the top of the air flow sensor plate is level, at bottom edge of venturi, and even in gap on all sides. (.01 mm) Also JW had a post about the delayed fuel cut off relay on the back panel. I think that would be worth trying to jump as suggested. Good luck.

The "Flap slamming shut" sound is proll'y only the boost bypass valve sliding back and forth in its housing . The air sensor plate , I believe would come up against an internal rubber stop.
See if a nearby independent shop can simply swap in another ecm for you and see how it runs.
good luck

You can test the fuel head by volume testing how much comes out the control pressure circuit, s/ be 160-240 cc / minute. Timing the engine as you did sounds iffy- you should have 26-28 BTDC at 4,000 RPMs. If your car sat, the dist advance mechanism can freeze up. Make sure you're advancing. I'd also rule out your lambda system ECM by disconnecting the O2 and tuning to 3% CO. Most guys leave it right there.
