George,

I am not sure of the pump drive mechanism for the RSR, but given that any kit would have to adapt to the end of the input shaft used in all the std 915 transmissions - the choices are limited - but there are still several in this regard.

The solution we have schemed has a similar manifold mounted to the end cover, only the pump is remote. The use of the sump and screen in the bottom cover allows for review of the filter screen without having to remove the transmission from the car.

In terms of product developement timeline 1 to 10, this one is in a position like 2 or 3. One reason it went cold was the lack of an acceptable pump solution, but it's by no means dead.

There are still a number of 915 related projects to tackle, but in each case, the product is aimed at a smaller and smaller (even if highly enthusiastic) market segment.

Regards

Hayden

Hayden:
Thanks for the images. Now, when can I order these??? Tomorrow?
Are you at liberty to disclose piston sizes?
Regards,
J.P.

wevoid 09-23-2004 02:16 PM

J.P.

Sorry we are not taking orders. We feel the gentle pull from the market, but it's too early to know where we stand on this one.

There is no secret in the spec, we are not doing anything unusual, other than packaging together a large number of the desirable variables.

Fronts, 36mm / 40 mm
Rears, 28mm / 30mm

Hayden:
What type of order/interest #'s will you need to pull the trigger on production?
Regards,
J.P.

wevoid 09-23-2004 06:41 PM

J.P.

It's not a function of market interest at this point.
The product has to go through testing and assessment before we can freeze a final spec.
If we are satisfied that we have met all the targets of the design brief, a green light is definitely on the cards.
This assumes someone else does not bring an equivalent alternative to market before we reach that point.

I appreciate your ongoing interest and assure you we will post some thoughts on the matter as they develop.

Hayden

I have re-read the whole tread (and digested the info much better 2nd time around), and I have one question nagging me:
Hayden, what are the rotor sizes. Chuck mentions a 28mm thickness for the front, which seems odd to me. Will you go with 32mm thickness in front (heat sink)?

wevoid 10-01-2004 07:51 AM

George,

The front rotor thickness is 28mm.

This was a packaging driven number, part of the re-packaging to ensure no wheel spacer, no LCA grinding, adequate wheel clearance.

We did increase the diameter from 304 to 315, which increased both the torque radius and the weight of the rotor over a 28 x 304 (the first logical choice when looking for a narrower package).

The result is a 28mm rotor with the same thermal capacity (mass) as the O.E. 32mm rotor.
Our testing will determine if an adequately direct relationship between the 315 x 28 and 304 x 32mm rotors has been achieved.

Makes sense, thanks. I will miss those mean looking thick rotors, though.

wevoid 10-01-2004 08:44 AM

George,

The 315 rotor is so large inside a 15" wheel it's almost impossible to see the edge of the rotor, so you can imagine they are still thick.

At this point I believe it's good "village market trader speak" to say something like

Never mind the thickness, feel the weight!!

Hayden

GeorgeK 10-01-2004 08:52 AM

Hayden,
No question there. The heat sink factor is related to weight (I think) so if larger diameter, thinner is fine.
Any news on wether this goes forward?

wevoid 10-01-2004 09:00 AM

George,

Still no official word.

The road testing commences some time on 2nd October, so by early next week I will have a better idea of how we satisfied the intentions of the brief.

For as pretty as the parts are, it all means nothing unless they work like we intended - and in a manner that would suit this specific market.

After some road testing they go onto a race car and by October 31st we will have some track time that shows meaningful data.
We also have the option of a 25 hr test in December which is interesting, but I figure we will have made our production decision before then.

Even so, a 25 hr test would be useful, even if only to gratify the designer and prove the durability of our pre-production solution.

Hayden are you and Tracy driving at sears point (Infineon) on Oct 30/31? if you are which group? I have just signed on for hpde3

wevoid 10-01-2004 03:32 PM

Larry,

Tracey is driving in HPDE3 with you.
I am Chief Steward for the PRC, so I will not be driving.

So I guess I should bring you a beer at the appropriate times?

Hayden;
Patiently waiting for the G50 shifter to reach production. It looked very well made and designed.

Scott

wevoid 10-02-2004 06:58 AM

Thanks Scott,

Yes the G50 shifter is ready for production. One test unit has about 15,000 miles and remains rattle free, smooth and precise.
Potential rattles were my chief concern, as the owners of the newer cars are more concerned with NVH.
This was another product ready for launch at the GAF, but we did not have the manufacturing resource available to bring it on line before the show.

Thanks for the interest, the G50 shifter is now due to be a pre Christmas launch.

Any updates for the brake kit?

CBRacerX 10-19-2004 01:46 PM

I'm a G-50 shifter candidate also!

Bring it on! Love to see a high quality option in this space.

Thanks,

Chris
