Question ~ WEVO - lineup, availability, pricing? ~

Ok, we've seen the tempting goods from WEVO - let's hear what all the products are and when they are available - and a bit more on pricing would be cool -

$ in hand, ready

I called about the brake sets...
Mucho dinero if they go into production.

The super nice motor mounts are $150/pair. I bought some at GAF.

What level of braking are you wanting to go too? Would Boxster calipers be enough?

I saw Wevo's billit rear caliper at the show, very nice stuff. Get ready to watch the $ in hand fly fly away (for a good cause of course).

OK Trendsetters,

This is as much as I can tell you, any more would be making stuff up.....

At the GAF we had all our standards on display. There were 3 new items that had not been seen before - unless you had managed to sneak past Ruby at the front door....(unlikely!)

The WEVO SS Engine Mount is a new release product that is now available for $79.85 each, these are available through Pelican.

These were displayed at GAF - not very well, on a stand that included a gold zinc plated engine mount console and lightened cross beam, those were an unplanned distraction, not products, we should have powercoated them black instead.

The WEVO Spring Plate System (WEVO SPS) is a complete upgrade for the rear suspension of torsion bar 911's.
Replaces the stock spring plate with an easy ride height adjustable version that features a snubbing screw to avoid un-noticed rotation of the ride height set screw that can occur with other designs. The rubber bushes that carry the spring plate are replaced with a large, sealed ball bearing and a large needle roller bearing - also captured behind a seal. When installed with a "monoball kit" for the inner pick-up this design results in a virtually friction free assembly. The system eliminates traction robbing stiction from the rear trailing arm motion, allows for easier corner weight set-up and actually provides a smoother ride than some of the other performance oriented bearing solutions.
This product is planned for release, although not currently available.
This kit is production ready, undergoing the final stages of testing and is intended to be available in the Pelican catalogue by Christmas time. The projected retail price for the 2 assemblies (one car set) is about $900

The WEVO 911 Spec Brake Kit, was also on display. This is an investigation by Windrush to satisfy a complex brief to design a brake package peculiar to the mounting and packaging challenges of the 911 suspension and Fuchs wheel design.
This was displayed to gauge interest from retail and trade customers and to showcase our Design, Engineering and Manufacturing prowess.
We have not made a decision to manufacture this product - however, we will complete the essential and complex testing of the product to ensure that it does meet the final aspects of the design brief.
If this kit reaches production, the workings show a probable retail price of $4400.
This kit is unique in the fact that is bolts 930 size brake pads and rotors directly to a normally aspirated 911, 1969 through 1989, it use no adapters, no wheel spacers and fits under 15 x 6" wheels - it requires no additional parts beyond those included in the kit - with the exception of a 23mm Mastercylinder to suit your chassis vintage and a car set of brake pads.
This kit is not available - although we are gauging interest, so please feedback your thoughts.
Perhaps the threat of a product like this will push Brembo or another big manufacturer to resolve a similarly elegant and truly complete package.
If we do elect to manufacture this kit, it will certainly enjoy a launch to Pelicanites through this forum.

I think this cover's all the unexplained?

Regards

Hayden

Subtracting out the cost of rotors, that's seems like a very high price for reworking an archaic caliper design. Why not start with a clean sheet of paper or one of the many modern calipers from AP, Alcon, Brembo, PF etc? Superb brakes for 15" wheels are available from every manufacturer given that all gravel rally cars use 15" wheels. Adapting them to fit Fuchs shouldn't be too hard with that budget.

RallyJon,

The subtlety of our solution is obviously not apparent, this is a clean sheet, we had the option of using all the calipers you listed, in every case the necessary compromises violated the brief.
We have incorperated a multitude of features from modern calipers and packaged them into a "period obvious" geometry suited to the old fashion wheel / hub design of the pre 1989 911's.

One reason you dont see a kit available and people like Steve Weiner is so busy converting 930 calipers is that the modern alternatives, whilst superb, are not complaint with packaging constraints.

We would have been happy to do as you say, allowing more profit potential for certain, but we elected to conduct the project in the way we did and are yet to decide whether to continue.

$4400 is well within range of other kits that cost something in the high $3K region, yet require alternate wheels, tires, etc, etc.

Thanks for the feedback, it is feedback that helps shape the nature of the explanation and description of the specifications.

Regards

Hayden

Craig,

The blue section is an elastomer suited to the engine bay environment.

The silver parts are all Stainless Steel, the Gold part is anodized aluminum.

Then this truly is a step between the harder rubber sport mount and the sold mounts. Congratulations!

i always appreciate vendor/repair shops the participate in the forums, and lend their professional opinion.

Also when they are able to take criticism and/or take time to educate us weekend mechanics...

As well, some of the vendors/repair shops are able to give advice without being condesending knowing that many of us prefer to DIY even if we are gonna make some mistake along the way and taking into account we are all amateur wannabe mechanics of varying degrees of ability (some much better then others...)

(This also goes for Henry Schmidt...and Steve W...and our very own Chuck Moreland)

I'd say the small amount of input and the patience goes a long way for public relations...

Hayden,
Great products, and I enjoy reading your explanations too.
I took one of your shifters for spin last weekend, the extended handle and precise feel were great. I'll need to get one soon. Hope to see you at the track again before the year is over.
regards,
Mike

PS Hayden's automotive racing experiance would make an interesting interview for one of the Porsche mags. Untill that happens guess I'll just have to hope to share some grub and vino with the boys again soon.

Wevoid:
Using the WEVO SS mounts, does one have to reinforce/gusset the chassis mounting points to avoid cracks? Are these recomended for all 4 mounting points or can 2 be used in conjunction with OEM Cabrio (07) mounts to obtain an intemediate amount of rigidity?
Regards,
J.P.
N.Y.
Ps. WEVO seems to be the ultimate high end performance parts for 911, and are priced accordingly. Ouch!

The Wevo brakes are works of art that fill a niche not serviced by the big houses

Compact(I hope you all noticed that they fit in Fuchs 6" wheels)
Rigid
Oem Porsche replacement parts
Great bias
Great pedal(w/23mm m/c)
More than adequate thermal reserves for lighter cars
Great cosmetics

an A+ package

jpahemi,

It is unlikely that using this product would require reinforcing the chassis. The design of our parts allows for angular misalignment, similar to the factory mounts - hopefully alleviating the skew loads that can lead to cracking. The isolation of engine vibration is another key in reducing the liklihood of cracking in the chassis.

I suggest they are used in pairs, only 911's with a 915 have the option to use them in 4 locations. Keeping the stock, or cabrio mounts on the transmission beam would probably reduce noise slightly, although we have not conducted that test.

If you wish to install 2 only, I would put them on the engine mounts. The wide base of the engine mount means that it has the greatest control over the torque loads from the motor.
The transmission mounts on a 915 equipped 911 are intended for locating the engine for and aft on car line, the cabrio or sport mounts are adequate in this respect, although the SS Engine Mount will offer an incremental improvement in this location too.

Regards

Hayden

Wevoid, Brembo has recently released their GTP and GTP light brake sets. These fit pre '89 cars and retail in the 3400.00 range for a complete setup(front and rear) which includes calipers, rotors, hats, brake lines and pads. I believe the light kits fit under 15" wheels but it might be only 16" wheels.

Cheers, James
