1989 911 Boxster Brake Conversion
Hi
I'm the new owner of a 1989 911 Carrera Coupe. I don't plan on doing any DE work with the car. I am going to do some mods. I have heard that upgrading the car to the Boxster brake system is a great upgrade. Any comments or experience in this realm? Thanks Wellborn |

Unless you plan to track your car, there is no need to change the calipers. Get a set of good high performance street pads and you'll be set. Ferodos are good street pads with less dust than some and I've not had any noise issues with them on the street. Some times the Ferodos are hard to get, but if you run a "brake pad" search you will find lots of choices.

If you were to switch to Boxster calipers you'd need the calipers & adapters. You'd also have to remove the rear P/V to maintain the correct bias. As Souk said, on a Carrera this isn't really an upgrade (cosmetics aside) as you retain the same rotors.

Do a search, this has been discussed tons of times.
I happen to have a set of Boxster front calipers and adapters waiting to go on my Carrera - but it's more for cosmetics.

I'd say Boxster calipers on a stock rotor are really a downgrade, not an upgrade.

Thanks guys, think I'll shelve the Boxster idea and just get some sticky pads, do you guys like Padgid pads?

If you aren't racing Pagid is overkill(but still a great pad, use Blues on the street), save yourself some money and labor(way less cleaning) by using Axxis or PBR Metalmasters(same pad different marketing channels)
