Price check- lower and align an SC?

Just wondering what a reasonable price would be. East coast in Richmond, Va.

Thanks,

An alignment should run about $175-200. Lowering is a different story. If your back has to be lowered more than ~1/2" that you will have to get the rear t-bars re-indexed and that can run a lot of labor. I'd suggest get them close yourself and then bring them in for the fine tuning.

A 4 wheel alignment in Dallas runs about $150. The lowering is going to vary due to the time it takes to get it right. The guys I have talked to say you need to adjust, then a short drive to get the suspension settled, then measure, and do it again, and usually again, etc..... Time = $, more time = $$$

This one will probably need reindexing. I can fit my fist upright between the tire and rear wheel opening and I dont have small paws.

Thanks,

Just had my 930 aligned Friday. Cost: $200 Chicagoland Independent

UK Carrera 10-12-2004 04:30 AM

Just had my Carrera lowered and aligned here in the UK. Was 5-6 hours labour (not sure of the exact time from the invoice as it included some other work). This included re-setting teh spring plates on the torsion bars at the rear.

Ok guys, ignorance is bliss, what's wrong with getting a front end computer alignment at say, Sears, for $59.99????

If you're going to change the ride height you really should have it corner weighted at the same time.
I get mine aligned by a certain guy at a local tire place for $100. I kept him company for the first few times until I felt comfortable with his work.

UK Carrera do you mean re indexing the torsion bars or actually just adjusting the spring plates?

thnks

Re-indexing the torsion bars.

I just went through the same thing, although I lowered it myself. It wasn't that bad just took a little time and the only thing I have done to a car before that was replace an alternator. My SC was at the US ride height and I lowered it to the Euro height. 25 in rear and 25.5 in front. Measurments are from the ground to fender lip.

I took in to get a 4 wheel alignment and corner balance and the mech told me my ride height was "nuts on". Not too bad for a first timer. The alignment and CB cost about $300. If you have the space and time, you should try and lower it yourself.

How about you PM me your number for an emergency hotline if I give it a try and run into a snag! What part of richmond are you in? Did you use an angle finder, etc..? or just wing it?

Who do you use for a mechanic locally?

You have a PM!

My lowered before and after

Hi Harold, I responded to your PM.

See my before and after. I didn't go lower the euro and still got a nice result.

Adam,
That's a lot of adjustment. Same as I need. You say the torsion bars were not reindexed in the rear? Can you confirm that with the tech that did the lowering?
thanks,

adamred 10-13-2004 12:58 PM

Sure thing, I'll call him in the morning.

Hi Harold-
Yes my torsion bars were re-indexed...My guy has been doing them since the SCs came out so for him it goes very quickly but as he just told me you never know what's going to happen when you start taking things apart....
