The seats are Monaco RS in leatherette. They weight about 1/2 the weight of the stock seat. Replacing the F/R bumpers and hood with FG alone dropped over 60 lbs. Get rid of the AC system, spare, ww reserve, rear seats, Everything that wasn't necessary to hold the car together was removed as long as it didn't have a negative impact on the visual. Things that were added were only added if the replacement weighed less. . . except for the roll bar.

Better question...... Why should I keep the 87 and not buy the 993 I am looking at?

Paul,
Hate to bug you again but, I found the cobra monaco but, not the RS and not in leatherette. Is that the same,I.E fixed back, seat? How did you mount it? Any fit issues? Sounds like a nice seat from the description if it's the same as I found. Thanks, Edit: Ken, that sounds like it should be a new thread but, I think someone has asked that recently...?

993 is nice but you need to get into a 993RS to match the fun quotient of the older cars or at the very least do lots of very expensive mods to a stock version.

THe Monaco seat I have is made by Monaco. I picked it up from GRP, GRM, or something like that in California. They advertise(d) in Excellence magazine. I used the stock Porsche seat mounts to place them low on the ground. THe Monaco seat rails raised the seats to high for my taste. The seats are available in cloth, leatherette, leather and in a variety of colors. I chose them since they offer more comfort than a race seat yet more support than the factory sport seats, at a lighter weight, and they do not have a fixed back.

Modify it. It's yours enjoy it. If you had an original SC/RS, an original '73 RS lightweight with a racing history, or a Ferrari 250 GTO, then I'd say anything other than a good cleaning deserves the harshest punishment, but it's just an '87 targa. Yes, a great car, but not really a collector's item, so you might as well enjoy it to the fullest extent.
If you had a wife that looked like
