Question Basic question about mirror paint prep -

Bought a set of orange - yes bright pumpkin orange - manual 993 Cup car mirrors.

What are the steps to prepare for GP White paint - (sand grit, primer, any BTDT experince you have)

THX!

Actually it would be best if you disasembled the mirror to paint. If factory painted then you should be able to sand down to the primer and paint over that.

For a small project like this you can buy factory color or custom aeresol paint from www.towerpaint.com.

I was going to removethe glass and mask the innards (which I hear are a pain to assemble) It appears that this is how the mirror was painted originally, and it looks quite good. Mind bending orange.

When I nail down the MA Shaw bumper setup, I'll have them shoot the mirrors at the same time.

I want to do as much of the work as possible.
So prep work consists of ? (Sand grit etc)

A big part of paint prep besides what has been mentined is removal of any silicone residue.

My painter goes nuts whenever a typical enthusiast owner brings in car that has had any silicone product applied inside or out.

"Mind bending orange."

Have you considered painting the car to match the mirrors?

Good point. Additioanlly, use Prepsol or similar product to remove silicone or other impurities before you start sanding.

If someone else is shooting the part you may want to confer with them to see what procedure and marerials (paper/grits, chemicals etc) they prefer you use.

Will do - thanks all. Painting/prep work is about the only thing I haven't done. I'll ask Mark at Eurotech what he prefers -
