Acceleration Response Problem

In finally getting my '83 SC project car painted and running, I am finding a number of small problems which I'm tackling one by one.

I have searched through posts here but can't find any answers to this particular problem...seems like most are cold start/warm start problems.

SCENARIO: Car starts fine, idle jumps to around 1800 RPM for around 15 minutes then kicks down to approx 900 RPM and seems to idle OK, revs smoothly with minimal small "backfires". Acceleration, however is horrible when driving with small backfires on deceleration. I replaced plug wires (new German w/braiding), distrib cap and rotor, plugs, fuel injector sleeves and O-rings, injector O-rings, oxygen sensor purchased from our Host. Car seems to idle smoother but still have acceleration problem.

By acceleration problem, I mean that when driving, upon acceleration the car feels like it is not getting enough gas or something, especially at lower RPM's. A strange thing occurred the other day, though. On a colder morning (approx 42 degrees F), I drove the car cold and the idle never kicked back down to the 900 RPM.....it pegged at about 2200 RPM and stayed there, even when the temp gauge showed about 1/3rd (normal warmed-up range). When I arrived at my destination, the RPM's were still at 2200 at idle. Acceleration was great during that trip....seemed perfect except for the high idle. Then on next day, car went back to normal start-up/warmed-up status as described earlier with the poor acceleration (temps only slightly warmer 52 degreees).

Maybe someone has a few tips/solution for this problem? I could then cross this off of my "list" of Stuttgartian annoyances.

Sounds like your Warm-up regulator is on the fritz. Replace the WUR and readjust your mixture.

usually a high idle means a vacuum leak.

I would check for vacuum leaks at all the notorious spots using either carb-cleaner (when leak is found - runs worse), or propane( when leak is found runs better).

I don't like to use either too-much though.

Check the intake runner boots, and if the injectors were taken out, check the seals.

Also check all the normal vacuum lines for cracks or splits at the connections.

Good luck.

for the acceleration problem, try unplugging the o2 sensor and set the mixture to 3.5. the high idle issue is probably the aav, the electrical unit. first start by unplugging it and cleaning the connections. if that doesnt work, replace it
