offset of 8" Fuchs

I'd like to make my 7X16 Fuchs look more flush with the wheel openings on my 88 911 using spacers. Can anyone tell me what the offset is on a 8X16 Fuchs Wheelis (for the Rear)? Has anyone done it... does it look good or should I just look for a set of 8"s?

There are 2 different 8x16" Fuchs available, one with a 951 part number w/ 23.3mm offset and one with 911 part # at 10.6mm offset.

If you use spacers larger than 7mm, be prepared to replace your wheel studs with longer ones.

I have a set of 14mm hub centric bolt-on spacers, these spacers have studs machined in to them. Looking at where my 16X7s sit in relation to the wheel opening, I think I'll need at least 2-3 times that to achieve the appropriate look.

Get the factory 21mm spacer. Put on some 66mm studs (about 1 hr labor) and the face of your Fuch 7" will be in the same place a 9" Fuchs will be...which is a little further out than an 8" Fuchs. It's by far the cheapest way to fill a 911 rear wheel well. Spacers are $50 or so on ebay (I ahve a set for sale with wheels) and studs are $5-$6 each. Total invested is about $100 and you're set.

The 7" Fuchs needs a 33mm spacer and 75mm+ studs to look like a 9".

The factory 21mm spacer will make an '86944 8" wheel look like a 911 Fuchs 9"....which is 10mm further out than a 911 8" Fuchs.

Hopefully I haven't confused you even more.

Sorry to revive this old message, but I have searched everywhere and am still confused. According to Bill's chart:

911 7x16 (OS 23.3mm) has backspace 120mm, frontspace 74mm
911 8x16 (OS 10.6mm) has a backspace of 121mm, frontspace 98.4mm
911 9x16 (OS 15mm) has backspace 138mm, frontspace 108mm

I have just bought a set of 930 7 and 8x16 Fuchs for my 78 SC, but now I am worried about being able to fit the 8s in the rear. I had 21mm spacers with my 7s before, and it was very close to rubbing on the right side with 225/50 Michelin Pilots, less than a finger's width clearance, just a bit more on the left. If I remove the spacers and use the same tire size on the 8s, should I have more or less clearance than the 7s with the 21mm spacers? According to my calculations, the 8's offset will move the wheel 12.7mm outward, plus another 12.7 mm for the 1" wider wheel width, or about 25mm, that is, 4mm further out than the 21mm spacer. Is this right?

Everyone seems confident that you can fit 911 8s or 9s with up to 245 tires on a SC, but I just don't see it. Hopefully the 225/50 tire size on the wider rim will square up the tire x-section so it will still clear the fender. What do you think?

The outer face of an 8x16 ET10.6 Fuchs will sit ~ .2" closer to the lip than the same part of a 7x17 ET23.3 w/ 21mm spacer. It should fit w/ plenty of clearance, unless your car has suffered from either suspension or body insult of some sort.

9x16 ET 15 also fits w/ a lot of room.

Thanks, at least that confirms my thinking. My car is lowered quite a bit, maybe a little more than Euro height, which may make things a little tighter.

Maybe you need to add a little bit of negative camber to your rear alignment? Even without excessive negative camber you should be able to easily fit the 8's without the 21mm spacers. With spacers it'll be close.

My car has plenty of room to clear a 16x8 wheel with the typical +10.6mm offset, plus I use the 21mm spacers WITH THESE 8'S.

Kevin, thanks for the link with photos. They helped me find the problem. My rear ride height is set way too low. According to the Bentley manual, Euro ride height should have the torsion bar center 16mm higher than the wheel center. But mine is something like 20-25mm LOWER. I think the PO lowered the car, and then later changed the rear gas pressure Bilsteins to Konis (red). I still have Bilsteins (green) in the front, and there the ride height is fine.

Anyway, I just received my 8x16 wheels. They came with Michelin 225/50s on them, so once I get my ride height corrected (I'm thinking first I'll replace the Konis with Bilsteins), I'll try them on and see if there is a clearance problem or not. My guess is everything will be fine. Will report back with the results.
