Are some reinforced rear sway bar mounts better than others?
I'm ready to buy a set of reinforced rear sway bar mounts and I see that there are multiple places to get them and prices vary significantly (by at least $40 a set).
Is one -brand/source- better than the others? I suppose the only way to tell is to actually have them to compare the size and reinforcement work that's been done. Does anyone have experience to pass on?

Josh, Are the mounts for the rear of your 72? If so I have pictures of what Tyson at TRE recently did for my 71. The early cars have to be addressed a little differently.

Reinforce them yourself with some plate steel just as Dan mentioned. YOu have to strip back and clean them up for removal and welding.
The reinforcement is a cross brace from the edge of teh cantilevered point (most inside) to the tub. Triangulation is key.

![]() ![]() Here is a few other ways to reinforce the mount. The mount now is bracketed and can't flex and tear. Better to do this before it breaks then after. You won't have to grind off the old one and purchase a replacement, just add the appropriate metal. You need to reinfoce the backing to the bolts also to prevent the bar from tearing out. |

Here are some pictures of the work Tyson did. Remember my 71 did not have any factory mounting points. The brackets were bought from our host. They had to be filled with a spacer so that the mount would sit flush to the inside of the tub.
![]() The area to be welded must be well prepared. They were then welded to the tub (inside so they would fit the 21mm bar) ![]() Tyson did a fantastic job and I dont think the mounts will be breaking away anytime soon. ![]() 88 Club, your 78 should have the mounting brackets there already. May not be the beefy aftermarket ones though. The 74 later years may not need the filler do to the seam on the tub is different then on the pre 73 I think.

After having mine break a few times on our '73 track car I replaced them with the Jerry Woods mounts. You can either get them as a kit or complete. Besides being reinforced, they use a longer nut, which is another weak point. http://www.smartracing.net
