Must sell my 911, have some questions though

Ok so it turns out I really need some cash and must sell my 1986 911 Carrera Coupe.

Unfortunately, this otherwise perfect Carrera has a real messed up sunroof that in no way functions, and a somewhat ripped up headliner around the sunroof, a broken AC, and a very scratched up dash piece that needs a professional repaint.

90K miles on it with no accident history

What do you think I can sell this for? I must sell it ASAP and there is no chance I can fix the above problems prior to sale

Thanks for any input

-Matt

If there isn't time to fix these relatively simple items, is there also not enough time for a purchaser to get a Pre-Purchase Inspection (PPI)?

Don't expect top dollar if the motor cannot be checked -- important things like compression and headstuds can't be checked without a good PPI.

Regarding the sunroof, is it stuck open? Can it be closed manually? If open, has water gotten inside the car?

What caused the scratched up dash piece; was it a theft attempt (was the sunroof pryed open at the same time the dash was scratched up)? Is the car now a theft recovery? Do you have the title in hand?

As already asked, where are you/the car located? That could make a few thousand dollars difference in price.

I can say it's worth atleast $5,000 -- I'll give you that for it sight-unseen!

Seriously, if you can give more information and post pictures, the people here will be able to give you better input.

Car is perfect except for the things I mentioned

I could get a PPI done

Sunroof works fine when you manually crank it, but when you have the motor try to open and close it, it is simply stuck, yet the motor seems to work fine (it can move the cables perfectly if you detach the roof) It is currently in the closed position.

The headliner is ripped up from sunroof use/repair. Not too bad, would be unnoticable with some glue but it still sucks.

I was hoping for more like 13 thousand, considering if I had $500 bucks that would fix the roof, $500 would also fix the headliner at the right place, and another $500 would probably fix the AC, although I have no idea whats wrong with the AC considering it worked fine the last time I drove it (6 months ago) And I bought it for $16,000.

$13,000 sounds very reasonable if everything else checks out in a PPI; I'd expect it to move quickly at that price (just from my personal, and casual, observations). It always takes the "right person" who is looking for what you have (in color, location, condition, etc.) at the right time to make a sale with any used car though. The season could work against you as people make travel/family plans, but then again, maybe someone just got a Christmas bonus and has money "burning a hole in their pocket."

I didn't see it on the "For Sale" board yet. If you can post there and get some good pictures online (cliche, but true "a picture is worth a thousand words") you'll probably get some interest. The relatively minor needed repairs you mention might not concern Pelicanites as much as your average buyer who might be looking in the classifieds of your local paper.

Good luck.

It's in the northeastern United States, about halfway between Washington, DC and New York City. If you're on the main highway you can't miss it.

From experiance, the best place to sell it is EBay. i have bought and sold many cars there with great luck. You can't get better exposure.

Those aren't major issues and a good DIYer would be glad to take them on. Only 90k miles is nice. A broken AC is much better than no AC, which is what I have on my 84. Would be hard to explain what "no AC" means to someone who doesn't understand. It means, dude, it's GONE.

500 apiece for those items is way too much. More like 500 for all of them.
Price it at 14k and go for it. I'm sure it's worth that. I did pay 20k for my 964 though. Then again, it was on the lower end of 964 prices. Most were in the mid 20s range.

But don't let someone deduct 1500 for all of those issues. Come on. Headliner is work to replace, but can be done for the price of the headliner, and the sunroof just need to be taken apart and figure out what's wrong. A junkyard will have a good working piece to replace what's broken. (laporsche.com)

I really want a coupe and would love to take the opportunity (assuming there was no rust at all--no tolerance for that), but I am already full with pcars at the moment.

If it really will only cost 500 bucks for all of that, then I could maybe scrounge up 500 bucks and fix that.

I didnt mention this, but there is a $500 cd player in it, 4 $130 speakers, 2 10inch subwoofers, and an amp hooked into it.

I have heard of places (on here actually) that will replace the headliner for like 150 bucks, but I dont know of any near Philly that do that.

The AC could be something as stupid as a blown fuse, I havent checked yet. It simply doesnt turn on anymore.

The sunroof price was quoted by that Porsche place in West Chester, PA...forget the name now...I figure the typical $90/hr for Porsche labor, yeah perhaps it is less than 500 bucks.

Thanks for the help, and yeah I did plan on putting it on Ebay, which is where I bought it. I look forward to turning things around soon financially, have some plans/schemes in the work plus a new job lined up, so I'll count the days til I can scrounge up another 20K or so for a 993 maybe(?) and continue to feed my Porsche addiction

I have a complete, excellent condition sunroof mechanism, I mean everything, from an 84 coupe. If you want to sell it with your car so there are no surprises for the buyer parts-wise, let me know, consignment-style is no problem.
