Your Light Wt. Tip of the Day -- Gauge Weights
The set of gauges on a 1980's Carrera weighs almost exactly 4 lbs.
Duplicating their displays on a LCD or LED screen could save a lot....

I don't care if you were even able to save all 4 pounds, you're not going to save a lot of weight lol j/k
But yeah for a dedicated race car, definately some savings there. Good tip, thanks.

MT912RS -- Thanks for your post. It looks like you've progressed beyond the suspension alterations you were doing!
Do a search for your sig and you'll see that a lot of people are interested in your project and ideas. Want to post some more info on it? Scott - I was thinking of something for a light wt. street car. I agree 4 lbs. isn't a whole lot -- race or street. But, it is a lot more than the glove box door, sun visor, drilling out the hinges, emblem on the front, etc. -- all things commonly done by some of the - ah - more crazed light wt. crowd.

Thx, Shawn. And that's a good reminder, but - uh - those are my wt. data that Thom is graciously hosting.
I hope to update the spreadsheet periodically, and the gauge wts. are already in my local Excel spreadsheet.

I have a little motto; “If it isn’t there, it doesn’t weigh anything.”
I go to events and see cars that are a moving sales room for every aftermarket and Factory doo-dad possible. If serious light weight is your goal, look at every part and ask yourself “Do I need this for the 911 to function?" When down to the essentials, figure a way to make them lighter. Best, Grady

I have made some slow progress on my car and hope to have it on the road this spring. Here are some curretn pics. It is at a stage where the changes are alot of work and don't look like much. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Ah, that explains the color change too....
My car is always at a stage where the changes are alot of work and don't look like much. It looks like you have too many Porsches -- esp. for a Montana winter. I'll be glad to take care of them for you until spring.

straps
Would it be weird or uncool to use window raising straps instead of the usual stock hand crank mechanism in conjunction with RS america door panels?
