Custom RSR Wheels
I am thinking about the wheels for my RSR clone and need some advice.
Jack and others have convinced me that I need to go with 17" in the rear to open up my options for street tires in the 275 or higher widths. I am planning to vintage race the car at some point in the future and will be restricted to 16'" for racing events. I also want to replicate the anodized finish of the original RSR wheels. So..... I am thinking about going with 16X9 in the front and 17X11 in the rear to start with and then having a separate set of 16X11 made for the rear when I am ready to vintage race the car. I have 4 16X6 Fuchs for donors. As I understand my options for custom wheels, I have a choice between 2 piece welded construction and 3 piece bolted. I like the look of the welded (no bolts on the rims) but I worry about cracks in the welds that will not be visible and could lead to wheel failure. Anyone have any experience with this? I have looked at three different sources for the wheels. Auto Associates, who are doing the body and fabrication work on the car will make me a set of 3 piece wheels for about $900/wheel. They do not do the welded 2 piece constuction because of the cracking risk. Harvey at Wheel Enhacement quoted me a price around $2500 for a set of 16X9 and 16X11. He does both 2 piece and 3 piece. Lindsey seems to be the least expensive with something in the neighborhood of $2200 based on what I've read on this website. They do both 2 pc and 3 pc. So my questions are: 1. Two piece vs 3 piece?? 2. Sources?? |

Here's some data I compiled:
