To get fresh surfaces for the balls, it can be done two ways: On each shaft, switch the inner CV to the outer position and the outer CV to the inner position without flipping the CV's. Just picture sliding the outer CV inboard on the shaft, and the inner CV outboard.
I did this on my '80 SC; It should work on earlier 911's. Carreras axles are different because of the stub axle on the wheel side.
Or, switch the axle-shafts so that the left one goes straight across to the right position and the right one straight across to the left position.
Do not flip the shafts to avoid reversing the rotational torque of the shafts!
In other words, the previous outboard (Wheel side) CV's are now the inboard CV's.
Both methods will keep the original rotational torque and prevent stress on the shafts.

Depending on your hardware size. I believe you shoud eitheir have 6mm or 8mm bolts.

You need belliville washers and they can be bought from www.mcmastercarr.com if our host doesnt have them.

You should be alble to find them by searching for "belliville washer" and you want the ones that are serrated on top and bottom and look like the following image.
