Do you mean the Martini 2.1L type cars...the precurser to the later 934/935 ??

Yeah, that's the one I mean... I was off by 400cc

an image...

This particular car was only raced once as a turbo, before which it was a martini RSR, like the car that started the thread.

It was recently converted(2001) BACK to it's factory delivery by GUNNAR in Florida.

Erik:

I respectfully disagree.... I have polished ( and let tarnish) a number of OEM fans...which are indeed magnesium but will appear as a matte aluminum color.

The straw color effect is the protective, semi-transluscent coating Porsche used to hinder magnesium corrosion. The stuff almost totally covered my 85 fan but was flaking and chipping so I took it all off.

Does that ban me forever from the Taj Garage ??? ....

Old clearcoat turns yellow - as does old fiberglasss - that was probably a little more milky white color in it's day. and the fan was probaby a little more silvery color. But it does look well cared for - Sweet - thanks for posting the pictures.

The fan is NOT of fiberglass. I have been near enough RSRs to tell you that with certainty. It is only very clean.

Edited because I'm an idjit....

73RSR was indeed 2.8L (308hp), but they had the same badges as the 73RS 2.7 (it doesn't say RSR anywhere either - just Carrera RS with the 2.7 on the decklid).

I had the pleasure of driving on the track in my 73RS replica while another driver lapped in one of these. It was a monster!

BTW, I think some examples of these have traded hands well above $500k.

Thanks for posting!

Jeremy:
The stuff that covers the fan is not clearcoat that turns yellow over time..its a special semi-transparent coating that has a faint green/tan color right from the get-go....

I think even Paterak uses a speical Dow-sourced product to duplicate the effect in resto's....
