A Real RSR

When I made my weekly trip to Auto Associates to check on the progress of my RSR Clone project the other day, they had a real RSR in the shop. I took several photos to serve as reference for my project and thought some of you would appreciate them.

The car is S/N 9113600557. This was the second delivered customer car and was restored by Jim Newton and the team at Auto Associates in the 1989/1990 time frame. The car won the Manhattan trophy at the 1991 Parade. A write-up on the history and restoration can be found in the July 1992 Pano.

The car is changing hands (for something over $400K) and was at the shop to be checked out before transfer to the new owner. I have some additional photos that I can send via a PM or another post if there is any interest.

Oh wow that car is truely something to envy, its near perfect condition is something to lust after. But at the same time I would rather have a replica. That car screams to be drivin and I would rather drive the piss out of an exact replica knowing im not gonna break one of the real things.

But did you touch it?

400,000? Hell, I'll offer 2,000,000! (Turkish lira)
Gorgeous machine. But you know, I saw the real deal (a sistercar) on the track, back in it's day...and it never looked that good.

Dash thing out of the speaker is the electrical cut-off switch.....

Sweet car....love the transluscent f'glass on the engine, which was in vogue with Porsche at the time....and the big , 12 plug dizzy....and....

STRANGE thing? That would be an in-board electric cut-off. There should be one outside, infront of the windshield as well.

I have an NOS example of one of those original battery cut off switches. It's cool, it's like a key that fits into the switch and you can put in your pocket.

That car is breathtaking, but I'd rather have a sweet replica built for abuse and $350,000 give or take in my pocket.

Even stranger is the fact that I dont think someone buckled in tight to racing seats could reach that in an emergency without unbuckling.
