The fan coating on an original RSR is as Will describes. It is a tacky cosmoline type preservative to protect against corrosion.
Auto Associates duplicated the look with a special paint/clear coat combo on this car and on my RSR clone. ![]()

....$400,000. That's a joke right ?
At some point, you look and see that the factory has less than 3 - 4 thousand dolars of THEIR money into it. Yeah, the 12 prong dizzy is extravagant but Bosch didn't charge the factory what they sell that cap and rotor for now. ($3000) Probably charged Porsche like $60 for it - at that time. What I want to know is - who would pay THAT kind of money in their quest for an attractive or unique 911 ? I like Catherine Zeta Jones....but I would NOT pay $400,000 for her attentions. Well...maybe if I was in love with her, I might. Phil __________________ '74 fiat 128 '80 928 '82 Targa - sold |

Simple supply and demand. 55 built. Who knows how many survived. Argueably, the ultimate Porsche.
Hell, they sell friggin' Chevys for 3 times that amount at Barret-Jackson. ![]() |

.."what is that strawthing sticking out of the front speaker?"
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "STRANGE thing? That would be an in-board electric cut-off. There should be one outside, infront of the windshield as well." I thought it might be a source of oxygen for the passenger..... What a car! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I dunno - call me crazy, but I have a hard time getting excited about the car. Yeah, it's beautiful, and the proportions are perfect, but what makes this different than Olsen's or any other built up high money car? Give me something that's been pulled out of a barn, with the dings and wear from racing and the pedigree still on it. I think this one's just been too sanitized. Don't get me wrong - I'd take it in a heartbeat - but I think something's been lost in the restoration.

SWEET!!! I have seen 74 RSRs at vintage races but I have yet to see a real 73 in the flesh. That is a super nice car.
