Got my ducktail - Question on finish

I just got my ducktail from MA Shaw - Great guy and fast shipping, but... the finish isn't a smooth gelcoat and looks to have been spray painted with a rattle can in spots?!?
Usually fiberglass is gelcoat finished and smooth, but has to be final prepped by the end user. Does Mike pre-fit / finish the edges and shape and then do a bit of spraying?

Just Wondering,
Andrew M

Heres a pic of the back where you can see the uneven spraying:

Just curious if the lid has the center section on the underside that is similar to the stock lids. I have A/C and would need this to secure my AC condensor bracket.

Thanks

That looks pretty rough compared to what I got recently from The Racer's Group.

Great. thanks. BTW, does the grill opening accept a standard 1974-1989 grill or the smaller early metal grill. The one I got only accepts the smaller grill that I had to buy.

BTW, that finish does look rough to me, but then again, you should fit it onto your car before finishing it, as you may need to sand down some of the sides to make it fit perfectly. Much easier to do before it has been painted.

Thanks again.

The ducktail I bought from MAShaw showed signs of sanding on various edges and some waviness on the outside skin below the tail itself at the spot where on the underside the latch support piece attaches. A little disappointing, but somewhat expected as regards fiberglass. The upper corners will also need work to make them more closely match the body opening contours in order to make the trailing edge of the lid match the body edges at the tail lights.

1973911s & Mike - Was there any paint on yours when you got it or was it all gelcoat?

Thanks,
Andrew M

here is my MA Shaw ducktail, it came in raw gelcoat no paint and was very easy to put on. took 1/2 an hour.
as the whole car will be repainted when we do the RS conversion in the spring, I left it in raw form.
