Well, a bunch of the people on the miata board are exactly like the people on this board, except they have miatas. They are serious about sports cars, driving, unsprung weight, the church of light(weigh), technology, engineering, etc...

But, because of the cost of entry into the miata club many more newbies, kids, and other folks are "members". Not bad, they are on the right trail, small, light, high reving, rear wheel drive, front and rear unequal length A-arms with coil overs (stock), etc... At least they aren't driving Civics

but some of them have a long way to go

I have kyb agx 8 ways racing beat swaybars front and rear racing beat subframe conectors front and rear,bsp cockpit brace,copetition roll bar and shock tower brace.The car is compleatly gutted,lexan side and rear windows and a hard top the under coating has been removed and im siting on five zigen fno1rr's with hoosier slicks.and im pulling a .99g on the skid pad via g-tec how can i get to 1.02g?

i have rc 440 injectors walbro 255 in tank fuel pump garret t-28 with a 16g wheel ross pistons at an 8 to 1 compression carillo a-beam rods no knock sensor what els do i need to have for the car to run and how much horsepower can i make

well i ran my 1.6 motor with 60,000 miles on it then i boosted it with 5psi 3 days later i pulled the motor and pistons well peices of my pistons any way they litterallly crumbled in my hand they just cant take the heat or pressure so now im runing ross racing pistons at an 8to1 compression with any amount of boost i want

The Miata group is as dedicated as Pelicanites. Seems they do not need quite the budget Pcar owners do. I have both a 911 and a Miata. The Miata is a ton of fun to drive. I didn't say it is MORE fun to drive, just alot of fun. Mine is basically stock (for now) but will be going in for some "work" this spring. I am not as hesitant to hurt my Miata as I am my 911.
If the 911 is ready this spring (doubt it) I plan on running both of them in area AutoX just to see the differences they both present. I realize my 911 has waaaay more power, but my Miata may actually be better in the weight/power ratio and maintaning control. We'll see.
They are both a blast to drive, and the Spec Miata's are definitely turning some pretty impresive numbers when they run for seemingly alot less money. Somehow scratching my Miata doesn't have the same pucker factor as scratching my 911. Call me bias I guess. Just my .02!

I had an '88 911, and now I have a '97 miata. They were both fun, but the 911 was more fun. It felt more like a racecar. The stock miata suspension is too soft. (when I have $400 I'm getting GC's for my Bilsteins, and I'll fix that) The miata is still too heavy relatively and underpowered to have a better power to weight ratio unless you've super/turbo charged it. There are some people on this board running around with 911's that are as light or lighter than stock miata's.

I definitely find that my 911 felt much faster and grippier around corners, but in a couple of places I'm finding that the miata is holding more speed through some corners than the 911 did, and I had 4 years of familiarity with the 911, and less than 1 with the miata. The extra 500lbs that my 911 was carrying was definitly hurting. But unless it's on a really tight course like an autocross the 911 will walk all over it.

I'm a big fan of 16V VW's for the same reasons people like Miatas. Light, simple, cheap, but most of all fun to drive even at 25mph.

You're right on about the age and experience difference though. I spend some time on VWVortex and this post has become a classic.

ok heres the ting take a corner at 35 or 45racing a ***** had a blow out sled into the crub hit 2 fents 2 burshes 4 brick and a trash can but anywho now I have a load cam knock it sounds like but I'm not sure my oil pan may have got pushed back alittle so I dont know if my oil pump got damgaed and itsn't get oil to the top of the cams does anyone have any ideas what else it could be and yea I spanked the little rice hatch back

I almost went the "spec Miata" route, but I just couldnt see my self cruzing PCH in it as I could in the 911.

racing wise I say they are probably both as fun.
