Alternator source

Who provides a decent rebuilt or new alternator? I see our host says they are no longer available, at least for the early cars. I also see a lot of adds in the various Porsche mags that say they have them. My fear there is winding up with the "Alternatormeister" of the electrical world. This is not for my car, by the way, but for a gentleman I ran into in Schuck's yesterday. I'm trying to help him out; a dealer had quoted him $1100 and he was desperate enough to try Schuck's. I told him to "try Pelican" and told him where to find them, but when I looked just now I see they don't have them. Any leads?

Do a search here on the Board. Lots of people have posted about their experiences with alternator rebuilders, good and bad.

Also, if you're anywhere near John Walker, I'm sure he can point you to a quality local rebuilder.

A call to Pelican may help. Some items are not listed.

Good luck.

When my alternator was going out I had John fix it. He installed a new alt....did not recommend installing a rebuilt unit.

Perhaps he'll chime in...

Thanks everyone. I'll refer him to John Walker if I hear back from him. I told him all about Pelican, our monthly XXX drive-in get together, and even gave him my number. Trying to welcome him into the local fold and help him out a bit. I hope he takes me up on the offer.
