Question of badging?

Good morning gentlemen...
Can anyone tell me what the OEM badging should read on an 87 factory turbo look cab, (option M491) should read on the rear decklid? Should it read "Carrera" or "Turbo" or should there be no badging at all?
Thank you in advance for any input.
Paul

No kidding....All this vast wealth of knowledge, and no one knows?
The reason I ask, is because I have seen all three badging on Turbo Look cars. (Carrera, Turbo, and no badging at all.) I was just trying to determine what is OEM....

It's not Turbo. Another thread had owners stating it was either Carrera or nothing.

Show some patience, this is not a pressing issue with most of us. I know this topic has been posted on before. Perhaps you can do a search while waiting for an answer. As I recall people who have owned M491's have reported their car having either no badge or a turbo badge, although most thought the turbo badge was not OEM.

Here's a previous thread asking the same question: Did Turbo-look have turbo

My '87 Turbo Look Targa has the standard "Carrera" script.

From what I can tell, they came from the factory with no badge at all, like a lot said in the other thread.

Putting a Turbo badge on it - man, that's just horrible! No way the factory would have put a Turbo badge on a non-turbo car.

Rock on!

Factory turbo-look deliveries will have the 'Carrera' script. They will *most definately NOT* have a 'Turbo' badge as they are NOT turbos.. All 911 Carreras have a 'Carrera' badge - this includes cabs, targas, and coupes..

UNLESS, they have option M498 - 'without vehicle-type-lettering on read end'

Actually this is not correct. (The "all 911 Carreras" part). Most all M491/turbo-look cars came w/ option #498, which was "rear badge delete". The factory would not put a turbo badge on, but they would leave the "Carrera" badge off for you. Same on regular (narrow body) cars.

This feature is very popular in Europe on Mercedes, BMWs, etc..., where you can get an S-class MB w/ a 6 cylinder engine. No badge= "it might be something better"...

EDIT: You guys type too fast for slow old me.

Denis, so if a 491 car doesn't list option 498 as one of its options, it would have come with the Carrera badge?

Yes, it should have. But remember, unlike SCs, "Carrera" badges were only attached w/ adhesive. (No holes). All it took was a blow dryer and a little care to eliminate it at the dealer or any time afterwards.

"No way the factory would have put a Turbo badge on a non-turbo car."

The factory did it once.
In this months Excellence - the article about the first Turbo made stated the factory did not have the Turbo motor ready for the unveiling of the 930 so they showed it with a N/A motor with a wood intake and I would assume a fake Turbo ( if it had one at all).
