OK next avenue...the taped wire by the distributor looks a bit suspicious. Would be quite easy to pull that connection off the casing and see what happens just to eliminate it.

OK, I can try that, but one other question regarding a wire I asked about earlier.

It's the other wire (not the CD box wire), that comes from a pole connector into the coil #15.

This wire comes from a pole connector, then spits into two double connectors into the breather housing cover,( back behind and under the air box. ).

I put a test light to the #15 on the coil with the ignition on (VW test) and got nothing. I assume this is because the current goes to the CD box, where I am getting full current from the battery, tested out ok.

So if the current comes from the CD box, I am trying to figure out why the additional wire at #15 at the coil. From the Haynes manual it looks like this wire goes to something called a WECO connector.

Haynes gives the coil specifications page 87, with "should be" resistances under CDS paragraph 9.

My spare coil, Bosch, may not be right for CDS, it has a different number on the bottom than the original. The only coil I have used is the original which is now broken,

.................. so is there a selection of coils with correct resistances best for a 1969 E with a CD box?
