Eric,

Are those Porsche Ski racks in the trunk? They look like Bearecrafters type hold down mechanisms.

Eric,

THANKS! You are a true enthusiast and friend of the Porsche community.

Ahhh. . . it is all clear to me now. The OAT gauge is actually a carryover from the 356 parts bin! Ditto the headrests! Look at the driver's lockpost, do you see the circular shaped depression around the engine lid release handle? Modern cars don't have that, they have a shallow bowl-shape! The fuchs have black paint on the webs!

Eric, you have made my day. May you be remembered always for this generosity.

Eric,

I’m impressed!

Hopefully you are taking it to the Parade.

Good for you collecting options – Racks, luggage, spare part kit – what more?

What is the possibility of finding original hood lifts with the gold decal? How about an original Varga battery and cover? Post more images, I’ll see if I can help. We can certainly help John with his ’66 project. A good repair for the hole in the wood dash to the left of his headlight switch can be a temperature gauge like yours.

John, what is your plan?
Be very careful with the rear window heat foam tubes. Originals are almost impossible to find. I saw a nice running ’67 912 a couple of weeks ago that looks like a great donor car - $4K was out of my budget for something I don’t need. I was tempted just to get the virgin rear window heat tubes. One of mine is damaged from a too exuberant shock change at the track 35+ years ago.

Best,
Grady

Grady, thanks for the offer of help and the tip about the tubes. Mine, while intact, are not pristine. I've seen quite a few that look like they were chewed by rodents. The one's in Mr. D's car look like they still have the smell of weisswurst from the workers lunch on them.

My plan, to be described more fully in a subsequent thread, is to make a detailed assessment of what's required to bring the car back to a very high standard, although I don't plan to win the Manhattan award. Right now, the list includes:

Rockers left and right, and maybe drivers lock plate (not original). There are some bubbles forming on the jack plate receivers. Repaint in 6606 Irish Green.

Interior: Refinish dash, wheel and renew dash pad. Repair lower door pockets where speakers installed. Replace window cranks (good LUCK!)
Replace wooden aftermarket shift knob with original black plastic (with no label).

I don't think I have these tubes - what are they? I guess its because my car doesn't have a heater - right?

BTW fantastic looking '67S! I like the outside temp gauge.
Also, are the sideview mirrors original?

Fred, the heat tubes are the orange things in Eric's excellent pictures. They go between the heater boxes below and some small vents at the base of the rear window, and are supposed to defrost the window. We know the factory went to electric heating in later years. Your '67S should definitely have them.

As Grady said, they are unobtainium.

thanks John,
My car is at the shop right now but I will be picking it up later. I will have to check what the scoop is as I am sure I don't have that setup although I do have the boxes below.
