Count me too in the group of <$10K '69E buyers when I bought my car about 4 years ago. While it's not perfect, it was and is rust-free. I still think that the E's are somewhat closer to T pricing then S's just because a lot of people just don't understand them as well as the "Hot" S's and the mild T's. While the reality is that they were basically sold by the factory at a mid-point between the T's and E's, I don't get a sense that all of the sellers perceive of them that way. On the other hand there are a lot of sellers who for some reason think that they deserve to be priced closer to S's then T's, but they're going to find it hard finding buyers if you ask me.

John, I disagree. Just because you got a good deal doesnt mean that is the market. I bought my 70S for under 10K three years ago. Just the right place at the right time
The activity I have seen especially in the last year shows that the E is becoming a very desirable car. Good S's have dried up and the next best thing is an E. SOme even suggest that the "E" is a better all around car, but I beg to differ!

Cornpanzer; I wasn't basing my conclusions on my own particular purchase experience because I figure that I lucked out like you did.

But the eBay closing prices don't support a high-teens valuation. Also when I've talked to people I just haven't heard about E's prices coorelating with the increase in S prices. My point is that every wannabe Porsche afficianato knows that the S's are special. But a lot of people (even on this board) don't appreciate the E's for what they are. Then on add the fact that we're talking about a 2.0 here. Lot's of people aren't willing to foresake the torque of the bigger engines, so the value of the '69's tend to lag that of the 2.2's and 2.4's. To be honest if the car described in this thread is reasonable, I would expect a $10K to a low teens valuation to be fair.

Good point on the 2.0. You are probably not far off on the value, but I wouldnt be suprised to see the E become less of a secret over the next year.

There was an E (either 2.0 or 2.2) in decent driver condition advertised on the classifieds here a couple of weeks ago for ~10,000. It sold within a few hours (no photos were posted) suggesting that market price is probably higher than what it was offered at.

I picked up my E while on business out in CA close to 3 years ago now, and drove it across country. Paid $6400 for it, rust free, interior needed work. Here's the original link:

54 hours in a 69 E

With some good luck and the Pelican brotherhood, I've been collecting parts to make it my personal expression of a "european café racer." Recently acquired a set of H4's with yellow H1 lenses, a very cool Abarth steering wheel, Scheel sport seats. I'm picking up a set of deep 6s on Friday and will have the rears widened to 7Rs. An S bumper from Kurt down on LI will complete the car. Later this summer I hope to a complete disassemble and baremetal respray.

I've got a quandary with the front suspension as I've got complete 77 Koni front set-up, but it's not period correct. And a brand new 69S right side Koni strut, need to find another. Or go with Bilstein, I'm not sure. Car came with S brakes.

I love this car so much. What a joy to drive!

Here it is last fall
