removing intakes
I'm attempting to remove my intakes with the Engine installed. Have any of you done this? any suggestions? I've got the passenger side off but I'm not quite sure yet on the drivers side.
Thanks, Pete ![]() |

Well, I didn't get any replies so I decided to go ahead and try and remove my intakes with the engine still inplace. The answer is yes it can be done, Atleast on an 84 it can be but undoing some of the hardware can be a tight squeeze. If anyone is interested in doing this to their car, let me know and perhaps I can give some insight.

Pete:
This is a good read and you're providing a good technical resource service... Are you removing intakes to go after intake manifold gaskets ??? - Wil

Yes please, I'd be interested in learning how to do this as I'm contemplating removing my entire intake manifold to check and address any intake manifold leaks

I noticed what appears to be leaking gaskets in my '84 and was looking to do the same thing. Do post more on this. I don't have an A/C or heater anymore. I was hoping that this would make it easier.

I was able to remove the intake but it's difficult. After removing the intake and having a look at how filthy my cylinders were, I decided it was time to drop the engine and clean it up and go after oil leaks. The plus side of removing the intake is that it decreased the distance I had to raise my car to get the motor out. I'll probably install the intake before putting the motor back in. I just have to figure out how to get my car high enough now.
Cheers, Pete |
