I've owned both a 4 and 5 speed in a turbo and rather have a 4 speed also.

I have a '79 930 (four speed) and a 1989 factory slantnose cab(five speed). The four speed is and always will be (to me) awesome. The lag accentuates the boost. The five speed with the hydrolic clutch is much more user friendly and drivable in normal driving. With the five speed you are in a much more suitable torque range for a given situation.

Not to hijack the thread, but I'd have to agree.

I drove a friends '94 911 Turbo 3.6 with the 5-speed over the weekend. Very, very fast... but I didn't like all the shifting just as the boost started getting really fun.

Myself, I like getting in gear, watching the boost build... and then disappearing off the horizon...

The 3.6 Turbo was much better around town, but my 930 is my weekend car (where I like "tall gears and lag").

Great, now we have to meet so I can see your car. A good friend of mine (in TO also) bought a '94 3.6 Turbo over the weekend... we can help each other out.

To answer your question, the G50 trans, which is hydraulicly actuated (no clutch cable), was the next generation to the 915 trans. Less heavyness in the pedal, and smoother shifting by most accounts. You really need to drive an 86 or earlier to feel the difference.

leiko,
It looks to be the authentic 930S Cab. Looks to be in beautiful shape. Really a nice color to boot! There's many ways to determine if a 930S is the real deal. The ones mentioned earlier in the thread are the easiest to spot. Another easy clue is at the jacking point area on the boxed rockers. Cheap conversions won't even have a jacking point. Porsche reinforced and extended the steel square tube out to the jacking point. Look under the boxed rockers, you'll see what I mean.
The only thing I have questions on is the transmission. I thought all 911 turbos in 1989 had the G50 five speed. Are you sure it's not an '88? Can you provide the first 12 digits of the VIN?

First 12 digits of the VIN are WP0EB0935JS0....

Asking price is 40k

Build date is 1988 which I assume is year '89 model. I can also confirm that the square tube does extend out to the jacking point

These cars remain exceptionaly cheap in the US. You wouldn't get a smell of one of these cars in Europe for that price. Look here and you will see. http://www.gmundcars.com/

That is damn cheap for a car like that. I paid 35k for my 88 cab (not slant nose) 2 years ago. How many miles on your car? We need to get together for a drive. Love to see this beauty in person.

You must remember that each one of Sonderwunsch cars almost cost double that of its production counterpart when it was delivered so why now should it be worth almost the same price as the normal car ?. As well as that nearly all the 930 S cars have extremely low milage .40 K Dollars is only £21K in our money and that only gets you a medium 930 over here.I believe at that price its a better investment than any savings policy !
