rebuilt altenator noise

I just put in a rebuilt alternator pretty easy except I now get this funky noise from the alternator. Took off belt no noise so not timing chains. Spin's easy by hand I wonder if alternator is crappy ? Also if I lower idle down to 700 r.p.m.'s noise goes away.

How about trying it with the belt not quite so tight and see how that sounds?

belt is loose 1 shim on the inside.

My alternator made a noise after I adjusted it to the correct spec's so I slackened it off so te belt had a lot of wobble, but not so much that it would flap around or slip, and this fixed the noise.

If the alt was rebuilt locally, I would drive over and let them hear the problem. Then drive it for a week or two and see if it quiets down unless they suggest otherwise.

I've got my alt out getting rebuilt as we speak. Knocking on wood!!

I always use a truck or marine rebuilder. They have to use quality bearings. If you were looking for a cheap rebuild you should figure 1in8 rebuilt starters and alt's are one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel.

The rebuilder is taking it back no questions asked and giving me a new one.
