Tuning isn't really that hard once you've gotten a bit familiar with the software tools. I'll email you a base map with some rows in the VE table having positive manifold pressure (ie: boosted). What fuel pressure are running? (ie: is your fuel pressure regulator 3.0 bar or 2.5 bar?). Did you install a wide band O2 sensor, the narrow band O2 sensor? I'll email you off line. Cheers, Tony |

I am going to set the wastegate to 7lbs. I am using the MSD Regulator that we had talked about, I think it will go to about 40 lbs. It is set at 30lbs at idle. I am using the 3 wire heated MSD sensor from Summit. I am pretty sure it's narrow band. I think my biggest problem is that I am not the best with computers and know very little about tuning. when people say VE table... I am lost. I am going to have to learn more. The car seems to run good, starts right up. I think it run's ritch when it warms up,( I say that only because the graph on the bottom of the megatune that goes from green dot's to red dot's moves well into the red as it warms up. Pull the vacuum hose off the fuel pressure regulator and read the fuel pressure. With the vacuum hose on the FPR it is automatically compensating for manifold vacuum so we don't really know what the fuel pressure really is. Tony |

Tony, do you know any of the coders who writethe tuning software? I am a user interface designer by trade (I work for a monopoly, guess who). I'd love to work with those guys to make the interface for MegaSquirt kick the crap out of the proprietary EFIs.

Yup, I've checked it out from the MegaSquirt BBS in the past. I wish I was a coder, I'd love to hack around on it. It is indeed very professional; it has all the bits and is pretty darned cool all around. That said, it still isn't intuitive to the novice user, thus our associate's problems. Usability is my forte. I'll give Eric an email and see if he'd like to share some thoughts.

Ok then.
With a fuel pressure of 3bar (43.5psi) you're good for 280Hp With a fuel pressure of 2.5bar (36psi) you're good for 255Hp The only negative thing about running higher fuel pressure is you're idle pulse widths maybe very small. So if you think you'll never go beyond 255Hp then stick with 2.5bar otherwise go to 3bar fuel pressure. Tony |
The BAE kit back in 77' said that it would put 259 hp. I have no clue where I am now. Now, are you saying that the max pressure should be 36lbs, or that at idle w/o the vaccum it needs to be set at 36lbs?

If BAE say it can go to 259Hp then go with 3.0bar (43.5psi) fuel pressure.
You need to do this with the vacuum hose removed from the fuel pressure regulator and the engine idling. You will probably have to turn the fuel pressure adjustment screw all the way in to get 43.5 psi. Note this will richen your mixture because the current MegaSquirt configuration I have supplied is set for a fuel pressure of 2.5bar. I'll email you a new configuration file. Tony |
note: you don't really need the engine running, but MegaSquirt shuts off the fuel pump if it detects the engine has stopped.
you can always just unplug the MegaSquirt unit from the harness and then turn the key to the "run" position to keep the fuel pump running and make your adjustement. Since the engine is not running in this case, you don't need to remove the vacuum hose from the fuel pressure regulator because there will be no vacuum. Tony |
no problem, I will set it this way. I had it turned up this way when I first started it by mistake and even I could tell that it was running ritch. what you are saying makes sense. When you email me the files I will have to learn how to imput them into the car.

Very nice work. Get yourself a wideband sensor setup like this one http://www.innovatemotorsports.com/xcart/customer/product.php?productid=16169&cat=253&page=1 Swap it for your sensor, connect the wires, change a parameter in megatune and it will make your tuning tons easier. Supply and return for the turbo is ready. All that's left is for me to get the nerve to remove my heat exchangers and install headers and turbo. Can you PM me some info on that EDIS setup. I want to do the same to my 2.7, but am still confused about all I will need, and wiring diagrams. Tony- do you have any MSII systems, they (MS) say they are not available until July/August. |
