The number on the fan housing is the part number, the engine number is stamped on the case below the housing.
Funny you mention BC and Tremblant! I work in Whistler and used to work for Intrawest, I went to work on projects at Tremblant many times, good luch with your car. I am from Montreal and I agree 911 project cars are hard to find in Quebec that are not rusted to hell from all the weather over there.

Herman:

Sure a 2.7 with MFI is possible, but likely to be not stock. I see this as a bonus but others will disagree. Some believe Porsche builds them better than anyone, but its going to be 30 years old and the stock 2.7's have some weaknesses.

A 2.7 MFI can be fun depending on how it was done and which cam was installed and exhaust. Does it have the correct older MFI heat exchangers? Does it still have CIS cams or has it been switched over to "E" cams? I think you would enjoy a 2.7 "E" MFI in a lightweight.

Did you figure out if it has a Mag or Al transmission? 7:31 or 8:31 rear gear? Any chance they upgraded the diff when all the other mod's were done (this is reasonably expensive and could add value)? Obvious old oil leaks around the heads?

Mike makes a good statement about fuel system. Could you drain the lines and feed the engine through a hose and gas can? Considering the expense percentage of a boxster engine in respect to the rest of the car I would want to go in with my eyes wide open and reduce mystery.

Will the owner allow you to check head bolts? Has it had a top end rebuild and was inserts installed?
