Damn right!
See you at the track.......but what car will I drive........

rdane 05-07-2005 06:56 PM

Cough it up...what car will you drive?

Or better yet how much HP will the car have that you will drive?

I forgot to ask, are you ruinning 7/9s or 8/9s with the RA1s on the "old" car?

I need to do a test fitment on RA1s. Any chance of swinging by Eurotech next week?

Craig 930 RS 05-08-2005 07:27 AM

I'll be driving the 3.6.... with 7s & 9s.

After looking at that beautiful car I'm going to be embarrassed to let you drive mine. Think you can do it with a blindfold on?

rdane 05-09-2005 07:11 AM

Key word is "drive".....still can't drive mine http://www.cowd.net/cowdmb/emoticons/skeptic.gif

Porsche-poor 05-09-2005 07:17 AM

If the rain quits maybe Thursday I get up that way and get you a fix. Just bring a blindfold. its blue by not that good looking.

Similar internals, bearing retainer plate, wevo gate and a 80% ZF.

Not "my" work but thanks. Mark, Jason, Bruce, Sang, Alex and Jeff get the credit for this car. As Randy W. once said, "I'm just the sponsor" and on most of this one I was the idea guy.

Afterall doesn't take much skill to think all this stuff up.

Craig 930 RS 05-11-2005 07:58 PM

Same here skill-wise.

BTW, the 930 I am buying was owned by a genius who did a lot of the work himself - better than most shops.

rdane 05-11-2005 08:36 PM

Yes sir, Randy built a proper track car for you Craig, congradulations!

I was lucky enough to get hooked up with Mark, his crew and Jeff. These guys have the skills and the drive to build amazing cars from the rubber in, engines and trannys as well.

Most fun thing about this entire project was building exactly what I wanted, no compromise. The proof will be in the driving and if my better half enjoys the car as well.

Can't wait to find out just how we all did! Might actually happen this Sunday!

Craig 930 RS 05-12-2005 06:19 AM

I hear ya, took the 930 home a few weeks ago to see how the other half likes it....she even said the full cage was EASY to climb over!

Now she's a KEEPER!

Next post I will be driving this car! Engine is running. Muffler sounds like a big bore V8 with glass packs at idle. Car has working heat! We are sooooooo close. http://www.cowd.net/cowdmb/emoticons/goofy.gif

Craig 930 RS 05-12-2005 07:06 PM

Well done!

If that muffler is mild steel, you may want to go to Performance Coatings .

rdane 05-12-2005 07:27 PM

Satin black from P/C is the answer on that one :)

Craig 930 RS 05-12-2005 07:51 PM

...done right!

Vonzipper 05-12-2005 08:03 PM

Dane,

Have you installed your 993 quarter window moulding yet, if so could you get a picture ??

What a Sexy Beast!!

Scott

rdane 05-12-2005 08:08 PM

Thanks Craig. I have reread your origial post a number of times to make sure.

Really excited about seeing the new dyno numbers as well.

Scott...next pictures (in a new thread) will give you all the details. If I miss anything I'll make sure to get what you are looking for, just ask.

People are going to be so sick of this car by the time I am done posting pics http://www.cowd.net/cowdmb/emoticons/faint.gif

Rufblackbird 05-12-2005 09:14 PM

Dane, no reverse lights?

rdane 05-12-2005 09:25 PM

No reverse light. Didn't like the cost ($60 more) or the look. I only plan on driving straight ahead...fast, Jeff:)

If I miss them I'll buy just the generic lens and wire them back in.

Bobboloo 05-12-2005 09:36 PM

"People are going to be so sick of this car by the time I am done posting pics "

I doubt it. We all come here for vicarious pleasures. :)

I can't get over how incredible that paint looks. Have you decided a name for the color yet? How about Flippity Flop Blu.

Eric Mckenna 05-13-2005 06:24 AM

Dane,, you're KILLING ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thou shall not envy others... Thou shall NOT envy others!!!! I only have to say it 2000 more times! :)

FANTASTIC CAR Dane!!! simply awesome

-Eric

rdane 05-13-2005 06:26 AM

Thanks Bobby. Eric we have to get together so you can drive it :)

Made your reservation for SF yet?

Mercedes beat me to it. I now know they did the color recently just haven't seen the actual color code or name yet.

Argeo 05-13-2005 08:03 AM

Dane,

That color is gorgeous. Your car looks awesome.

Just curious, I was wondering if there was any concern about taking all the rust coating (galvanized stuff) off? I wouldn't think so but others had mentioned it to me when I was getting ready to strip my car.

Well, you rained on my parade. I am going to hold off posting any pictures of my car for a couple months now (painting tomorrow). Any other car would appear blah after viewing yours. I started back in August and I don't see it looking half as good as yours.

Congrats,

David

rdane 05-13-2005 08:20 AM

David, thank you. You'll surprize yourself, trust me. All these cars turn out beautiful with new paint. There are dozens of them on the board currently going through the same process as I am.

Show us some pictures of yours!!??

Galvanizing? I understand the concern. Not really a worry with the new paints was my thought. The primer is a epoxy base that gives you a lot of protection just to have a thin layer of color to cover it. Most of the car that needs rust protection you aren't going to hurt unless you do a chemical strip that removes the galvanizing everywhere.

Gotta remember their are early cars with no rust proofing past their original paint still driving with little or no issues. I had to replace one section in the nose from a bad battery and my car is full galvanized '79 tub. Just takes some care and a watchful eye I suspect to make it another 25 years on this paint.

No way it will ever again see the abuse of the the last 10 years. I suspect it will need a respray or two before I sell it. But it will still be a better car than when it came out of the factory when I do :)

}{arlequin 05-13-2005 08:21 AM

I don't understand....... you put in the rear strut tower RSR-style reinforcements, but then you *drill* them? Isn't that counterintuitive just to have an appearance of lightening the chassis?

rdane 05-13-2005 08:42 AM

Some times you just have to let the artist satisfy his creative bent. I do have a lightened chassis @ 2200#s so it isn't just appearences.

Towers are strong enough for my use. Mark (the builder) is a happy guy who has poured his heart and soul into this car and made it his own over the last 6 months. It is a win/win.

What some miss when dealing with guys this creative and talented is you need to give them a free rhein at times to build what they want. Some direction might be required but to get their best work you need to let them be part of the process and involved.

Which is why I have trick, lightened, strut braces and why Mark is doing the work, Dave ;)

Craig 930 RS 05-13-2005 08:45 AM

I know Mark (main man on Dane's car), and Dane has hit this one right on. Give em a bit of leeway and the project turns out even better.

rdane 05-13-2005 08:54 AM

I build custom pieces in metal every day. My best work is when a guy gives me a check and says, "build what you think is best for this kind of money".

My customer doubles his investment with me when they make that request. I think I did better than that with this car and the money spent.

No queston it is the best experience I have ever had with a shop, communication and quality of work wise.

Mark and the entire crew at Eurotech are kindred souls when it comes to their passion, custom cars. I see it in their work. Everyone involved was excited to see the color go on and now the engine and interior going back in.

They are proud of their work and it shows in the end product.
