I'm gonna stop by and take a look. It is SHARP in pics for sure -

rdane 05-13-2005 09:06 AM

You mean these obviously :) Hard to see them stuffed behind that hot rod 3.6 You ought to see the inside of the fender lips. Now there is where the real talent showed and you'll never even see the effort. But you can feel it any time you walk by the car.

I couldn't afford that kind of detailing. But it was just one of many details Mark thought should be done to "finish" the car so he just did them.

Exactly...check it out today if you get a chance...I gotta keep working in the shop.

Craig 930 RS 05-13-2005 09:11 AM

BY THE WAY***

Mark did all paint and repair work on my 'new' 930. Perfect.

Craig 930 RS 05-13-2005 09:11 AM

OK if I post a few pics?......taking the digi camera

rdane 05-13-2005 09:14 AM

Go for it. Just post them in this thread if you will? And no, you can't drive it before me!!!

Shuie 05-13-2005 09:27 AM

You guys and your updates of your incredible cars....

Im so damn jealous. I need to go do something cool to mine now :). Between drooling over pics of your car and Craig's new beast Ive been on the phone with the fuel safe people and the guy at SMART Racing already this morning.

rdane 05-13-2005 09:29 AM

Naw..just buy Craig's or Jason's 3.6 hot rod, Shuie and be done with it.

lateapex911 05-13-2005 10:02 AM

Dane, what is the muffleer? Your description makes it sound desirable.

rdane 05-13-2005 10:15 AM

It is a prototype from Triad. They are local for me and have built a couple of other pipes for Pelican members with 3.6 trans plants. Haven't said much or photographed it intentionally because I wanted to get dyno results (before and after) and post them first. Also need to get the muffler coated next week before I do all that..

Bolts right up to the stock heat exchangers, sounds good and gives me a lot more room behind the bumper...which should mean less heat issues with engine cooling and the fiberglass bumper.

JonT 05-13-2005 10:18 AM

Didn't Triad already do a muffler for 993 headers?

rdane 05-13-2005 10:20 AM

Yes, but this one is a one off, prototype, as I said.

JonT 05-13-2005 10:21 AM

Sounds cool--car is looking incredible! I'll need to update my muffler for my 3.6 soon so I'll be interested to see it.

rdane 05-13-2005 10:24 AM

Jon, the idea was to square the tips and make sure the muffler fit under the typical SC bumper easily. Should be perfect for your car. The price is right even adding in a cermaic coating added.

If it works as good as I hope Triad will own the 3.6 transplant market on price alone.

Argeo 05-13-2005 10:45 AM

Dane,
Yeah, I guess you are right about the galvized coating removal. I had to remove a lot of mine to fix dings, dents and rot. I sort of figure the same thing but I wasn't too concerned due to the dry weekend usage.

I'll post when I finish up but here is a teaser for the mean time.

David

Argeo 05-13-2005 10:47 AM

I guess I can't post pictures.

Sorry.

Craig 930 RS 05-13-2005 11:13 AM

Just got back from Eurotech - here are all the pics I took, except the muffler pic out of respect for Dane's wishes.

Guys, the car represents hand-crafted goodness in a way that is indescribable. Attention to detail *everywhere*. The flares.....phenomenal. The color, flat-out cool.

The interior is going to be sharp and unique - in a great way.
The upholsterer was there finishing up - good guy, great work.

Wow.

rdane 05-13-2005 11:18 AM

Oh, my! Just look at that sissy, white headliner :)

Funny this entire project started with a rock chip in the windshield 6 months ago and just wanting to replace the 25 year old headliner. The results? Amazing!

Thanks Craig! Marks says she will be rolling for Sunday. Bring your cars out!

Craig 930 RS 05-13-2005 11:25 AM

Psst......their stated goal to me was to be finished earlier than Sunday -

She is quite close, closer than appears.

DG624 05-13-2005 12:13 PM

rdane, The project sort of got out of hand didn't it? Looks great. I was wondering if you removed the sunroof did you weld in a new top? Did this work out like you wanted and how much time did it add to the project? Also how much wieght did removing the sunroof save?

What is different about your muffler? I believe I have the second one made, and while I have dyno results, I have nothing to compare it against. What will you use as a reference? Cats with tips welded?

rdane 05-13-2005 12:37 PM

The lay out on my is slightly different than the first two Rob. Dave delivered it tack welded only. Mark then cut and rewelded it for a perfect fit with my bumper (SC style for fit).

Running dyno numbers against the original custom muffler on this 3.6, which darn near equaled Craig's full house set up while in a terrible state of tune.

DG, I did not replace the roof. Mark pulled everything and seamlessly welded the sun roof slider in. Turned out perfect with almost zero body filler. That was just the first of the many projects over the winter on this car.

I have the numbers of what exactly came out of the roof weight wise but can't to ity at the momnet. I'll get back to you on that one.

Craig 930 RS 05-13-2005 12:43 PM

BTW -

Sound deadening you are having installed is smart.

In the roof etc - there is a fair amount which may be a bit heavy, but you will enjoy the car more.

randywebb 05-13-2005 12:53 PM

people usually say approx. 30 lbs. saved to remove the sunroof motor etc.

check Jim Calzia's web site for more info.

Maybe, but I doubt it is even close even using just a glue in fiberglass insert.

My electric flag mirrors and all the sunroof parts including the motor, in one box, was 16.5#s on a US postal scale. Mirors weighted more than the roof parts I suspect.

I did use the steel sunroof panel but it is not 15#. More like 5#.

2 electric flag mrrors and the sunroof delete dropped a total of 16.5#.

Kinda like RS door panels not much of a savings for the effort. I just wanted the head room.

Stripping and adding Brownbread in th cabin was one of my first DIY projects. Much improved the cabin noise and dropped a bunch of weight.

I figured with the current weight loss program the sound proofing in the headliner ( the majority should be foam ) was worth its weight in gold on a long trip.

jmz 05-13-2005 01:10 PM

speaking of mirrors. Which type of mirror are you going to use on the exterior. ...or none at all.

JZ

lateapex911 05-13-2005 01:38 PM

Brownbread???
What's that?? My car is noisy, and while it's a good noise, even the most dedicated gearhead likes a little quiet on a long trip!

randywebb 05-13-2005 01:50 PM

Maybe, but I doubt it is even close ...

- that's why we need accurate wt. data. and you are gonna post yours, right...

Tooth911 05-13-2005 04:13 PM

Dane do you know about what time you will be at the XXX iam looking forward to seeing the new ride .And craigs930

rdane 05-13-2005 06:08 PM

Bone head interior guy hasn't seen himself clear to finish my seats in the last 6 months...so my car won't be there.

Thanks to Craig I keep him from adding 35#s to the roof today. Subcontractors can really be idiots.

Call it a major delay. Only one more disappointed than me is the shop owner and he was really pissed.

Drago 05-13-2005 06:09 PM

That has got to be the ugliest COLOR I've ever seen on a 911. How dare you!

All those custom mods are really in bad taste....

Just who in the heck do you think you are?!?!

...and that interior...http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/...s/pukeface.gif...what were you thinking??? :)

You can't do that to a 911 without " group " approval. How dare you!!! :D

Can I have first ride? Please? Pretty please w/ cream and sugar on top???

I don't weigh much and I'm kind cute...in the right light of course...

Edit: Beat me to it...forget it...I don't wanna ride now...damn interior guys...:(

Sorry about that Dane...it'll be right at the end though.

rdane 05-13-2005 06:11 PM

Piss off hoser :)

I mean that in my kindliest way of course.
You have no idea just how pissed I am at this idiot's dicking around. So I am a little testy at the moment.

Drago 05-13-2005 06:12 PM

Edit.

rdane 05-13-2005 06:17 PM

Ya, "nice car..seats for sale". Not going to happen but good idea :)

Craig 930 RS 05-13-2005 07:12 PM

35 lbs in the FREAKIN' ROOF?! WTF?
He seemed weird, but he went on-n-on about how nice you are.....true.

Man, you guys up in the NW are brutal, we here in Texas are so much more accepting of other people's faults. Can't we all get along?http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/...s/krakrani.gif

rdane 05-14-2005 06:44 AM

I can a get along as long as boneheads like that aren't touching my car :)

Kinda the junk yard dog effect with a porsche.
