Installing an MSD in my SC....

Ok, I read the tech article in which this is done on a 914. Who's done this on an SC and what are the tricks? Will my Blaster Coil fit on my fan housing without the decklid hitting it? Where did you mount the MSD unit? And what is the rev limiter on a 3.0? Thanks.

I don't know about the MSD unit itself, but I'm running a Blaster coil (with the stock CDI) on my car and there are no clearance issues at all.

I decided to go with the MSD Blaster coil after having 3 Bosch (made in Brazil!) coils fail in under a year. The MSD coil has had no problems at all.

Richard,

Here's my simplified description. Let me know if you have any more questions. The writeup assumes you already did your main power and ground for the MSD.

Kirk,

I have heard that we SC owners could only use stock coils or it will blow up the CDI. Does MSD make a coil specifically for CDI porsches?

Kemo,

I was told that the MSD High-Vibration Coil works with the stock CDI.

I've been running it in my car for almost a year now with no ill effects. It's less expensive, readily available, and I believe it is a better design (solid epoxy internally).

My stock Bosch coils (Brazillian) kept leaking oil out the top (which points down) and self-destructing!

Very simple install. Just follow the wiring instructions and you should be ok. I found that installing the MSD tach adapter caused my car to die at 3000RPM, so i wired it directly to the tach and havent had a problem since.

I have been using the Bosch blue coil and havent had any problems, I did have to move the coil from the top two studs on the mounting plate to the bottom two studs

The hardest part is actually mounting it to the car. I tapped new holes in the stock bracket and attached a plate to it, and then the MSD.

I'm installing a 6AL and Blaster Coil. What else do I need?
