Strut insert install question
I installed new koni inserts saturday in my 88 targa.
I removed the large rubber bushing (not sure of name) from the upper strut mount where the strut goes through the body of the car. I had to destroy the rubber part to get it out. It was replaced by a 2 piece rubber mount and large washer that came with the koni inserts. My question is......have I screwed up by removing the original rubber piece? I have driven the car since and have no adverse affects and it handles much better than before, but I'm not sure if I have screwed up. Impatiently awaiting a reply ![]() Thanks.............KC

Is number six in that drawing the spacer on US-spec cars?

I think #6 is the metal sleeve that is inside the rubber bushing (inside #8?) at the top. In any case the ride height spacer is much wider (1.5" in diameter maybe).

The Part I'm talkin about is the large rubber donut looking thing that would be in #8. I removed the one that was original equipment on the car and replaced it with the rubber washers ( large and thick) that came with the Koni inserts.
Here's a pic of the part keep in mind I had to cut part of the rubber off to remove it, ![]() ![]() Just trying to be sure I have not made a mistake by removing the rubber peices. Thanks............KC

Nope, no mistake. I reused the old ones on my car because they'd already been compressed a bit and I couldn't get the nut on the insert with the new ones, but when I did the job I found people who'd managed to.
You're all good.
