I have some aftermarket A/C in my 78 SC. It has rear decklid condenser, undercar condenser, Sanyo type rotary compressor and the evaporator coil is in the fan box in the smugglers box. I'll go out to the garage and get the name. Uses R-12. It gets very cold. It doesn't work well when just sitting in traffic, but that could be remedied by having a fan underneath. The rear condenser gets plenty of airflow, and my car never runs hot (and I don't have a fender oil cooler).

If you have only a single condenser, I doubt you will get very much in the way of cold air. If you don't have enough condenser to condense the compressed refrigerant into liquid, the vapor compression refrigeration cycle doesn't work very well. Also, make sure your condenser and evaporator coils are clean...there are cleaners available for them, but try to stay away from the really alkaline stuff unless you don't like your paint or undercoating.

Pro Cooler

I had stated that my car, a 1987 coupe, had a Pro Cooler, serpentine evaporator, and a new larger rear condenser and new hoses. Also I am using the stock compressor and front condenser.

We finished install last night and today was the first test. The temp in the shade was 87.9; and the car had been parked in the sun for an hour. The car is Casis with wine interior. After 15 minutes of driving in typical traffic the center vent temp was 37.5 and the left side vent was 35.6 and the right side was 38.

I was comfortable and did not turn the fan past the second level. The temp was on high. It may not be perfect but it is close.

Anyone want a rear condenser, $175.00?

si Banker: Is there a reason you won't post pics of the new condenser, and the name of the shop where the work was done? After all, isn't the idea to help people on this board?

The reason I did not post a picture is because I don't have a camera...................The tech who installed the system has the info on the condenser and I will update you with a pm when I find it. I would not give out his contact info without his permission.

I saw the entry regarding AC and just responded with my results. I never dreamed of getting the AC to work this well using r-134 with out having to go to using one of those gigantic condensers on the belly of the car.

Yes, but if enough people PEE in the Ocean it will wreck havoc on our environment just like those little molecules of hydrocarbon in the ozone layer.

Ruf: I intentionally used "pea." It's a saying the late, great basketball announcer Chick Hearn coined.

there appears to be much agreement on here that condensers, whether through more of them or more total area..and being able to direct fan air on them is the most critical issue? my question was simply to ask if anyone had tried addition of the 'procooler' alone..and if so, what was the result? if i don't have to do any more than this to drop even 10 degrees, i could probably be satisfied with that result for the $$$ for the time being. if i want a 'miraculous change' in the degree of cooling, i'd expect to have spend a lot more money and perform loads more mods involving condensers, etc. just wondering if i can get a truly noticeable improvement with this mod..or like it's been suggested, the 'pro procooler' camp guys usually did other mods at the same time and can't truly say how improvement is due its influence alone.

I think Thomas' first post was correct in regard to your original question. If your system is using any or all the old components (20 year old receiver\dryer & expansion valve, dirty AC oil, clogged evaporator & condensor fins), a procooler won't be a miracle cure. But if your system is well maintained, the technology used in the procooler should get you the extra coolness needed in a Texas\Arizona\California summer.

Pro Cooler

I was asked to give out the contact infor for the shop that did the work on my car or the source of the parts. At the time I was asked not to release any information until given permission.

My car is a 1987 carrera coupe, Casis, a dark color with wine interior. The system was converted to r-134. The changes to the stock system are:
New rear parallel condenser
New hoses
Pro Cooler
New serpentine evaporator

On a day when the temp in the shade was 87 the vent temps were 34 to 38 with the fan set on II. If the car was parked in the sun and allowed to "bake" the ac system could cool it off.

Today the temp is for casted to go into the low nineties; it will be interesting to see how the system handles it.

The web site for the parts and kits is www.mrjaguar.com and the tel number is 800-840-6162

What part of Alaska?

RickM 05-19-2005 07:40 AM

Si, interesting site.

Do you have the dimensions for the rear Parallel flow condenser. FWIU, the technology is patented by a Japanese firm and is made by one or two manufacturers in preset sizes.

I'm now wondering if it's a true parallel flow unit.

(14 X 22.5)
(14 X 26.5)
(12 X 22.5)
(12 X 26.5)
(19 X 30.5)
(14 X 20.5)
(15.5 X 31.5)
(10.5 X 27.5)
(14 X 19.5)

Condenser

10x 27.5 and it is a really close fit but it works.

As far as their business goes, I can't say. I was asked not to post any info until given permission to do so.

The true test will come in July and August when the temp is in the high nineties to one hundred plus. Mrjaguar is working on a more efficient fan system for the front condenser using two fans.

If he recieves more inquiries maybe he will get it finished sooner. As you can tell his primary market is XKE Jags.

Fair enough. So this is what your Parallel Flow condenser install looks like? Some have been curious as to fit. No price listed with your tech but $87 at ACKits.com.

To be honest I do not know en ought about ac to tell you. I do know they are not a thick. The people at mrjaguar could answer your questions

RickM 05-19-2005 09:13 AM

Si,

The pic is from the mrjaguar website. It's described as a "Multi Flow" condenser. Thought it would be like yours.

The condenser looks short on the sides. I'm guessing they've fabbed up some brackets to make up the difference.

Conderser

My conderser is 10 x 27.5. Mr Jaguar sells the condenser and hose kits for 911s. He also has the mounting hard wear for the condenser.

He is located in Dallas and is aware of the summer temps we have to deal with. I lived in South Florida and in the eighties had a 82 sc. The temp stayed around 90-95 in the summer and the system was adequate, but the summer weather here in Texas is another thing all together.
