How To Reduce Height Of 3.2L Motor?

I have a weird question.

Suppose you had a 3.2L motor and wanted to reduce the height of the motor (measured from crankshaft to the top of the AFM unit) by about 6 inches.

Could you simply shorten the intake manifold runners, by cutting out a section and then welding the runners back together?

Would the reduced height mess up any other components? How would the shorter runners affect the motor's performance?

You mean from a 3.6L? Would it fit and wouldn't you be messing with Varioram and so on?

Suppose you also need to pass California smog. Would a smog center pass a 3.2L with a plastic manifold?

Tonys EFI kit seems to take a lot of height out. IIRC

6 inches is a lot to cut out of that intake! Just a bit of info for you longer runners tend to make more torque and shorter runners tend to have more top end hp. The plastic 964 intake is not much shorter if any compared to the 3.2...I will have to measure. You would have to get adapter plates made or go with an injector block like mine to adapt the bolt pattern.

how about side draft webers on angled manifolds?

don't laugh - a guy i know who likes webers (has quad downdrafts on his morgan plus 8) has just fitted quad side drafts to his 928 in a similar way and reckons they work great.

This looks like a 2.7L or a 3.0L

http://volksweb.relitech.com/porsche6.htm

One concern with this engine conversion is the height of the Porsche engine versus the VW engine. To clear the taller Porsche engine, the engine hatch needs a raised portion added so that the engine cover can close. Luckily, the area that needs to be taller is all within the bounds of the engine hatch, so only the hatch itself needs to be modified, not the sheet metal of the van per se.

Which seems like it would mess up the lower bunk.
