Need some VW help

My boss is looking for a 68-72 VW bug for his daughters. I know this probably should go in the classifieds, but I am more looking for your input on who is reputable to buy from. Does John Walker deal in them does anyone know? Thanks.

Good advice but I'd include a 67. Stock 12 volt, better headlights and better shifter IMO. I like 66s too.

67 is nice,,,still has the old five lug wheel patttern. My all time favorite besides an early oval window is the 71.....

Girls who like older bugs? That's surely a change (a very good change)! This gives me hope that there still are girls with good taste in cars!

p.s.
Old bugs aren't the safest thing for some young girls to be tooling around in. I love those cars but I personally would not let my kids drive one.

Amen to that...

Also, that bug couldn't get out of the way of it's own shadow.

It's the other cars on the road that have the potential to cause a lot of damage/injury should that VW bug get hit....

I couldn't disagree with you more. IMO a 1967 Beetle is the worst year to get. There are a whole host of one year only parts that are not available as repro.

66s and older have 6V electricals, when was the last time you saw a 6V headlight in your local auto parts store?

69 and newer is the way to go. The IRS rear susp is so much safer. Also, with a car that has 4 bolt wheels it is really cheap to upgrade to front disc brakes using all stock parts. No such stock parts exist for the early wide 5 bolt pattern.

The earlier cars are fine for enthusiasts, but presumably this girl won't know anything about cars so her best bet is a later 70's car. The safest cars would be 73 and later with the factory side impact beams in the doors.
