targa... tail or no tail...?
I've recently purchased my first porsche (after wanting one since
my high school days back in the '70's). I've always like Targas as a good compromise between a coupe and a full-blown convertable. Guards red as always been my favorite as well. The color is fantastic -- not as dark as most reds -- with some orange, a deep creamy red that is almost unique. Anyway here is a picture from the day I arrived home: Now I'm trying to decide if I want to add a tail. I used to like tails back in the "old" days, but I find myself now starting to wonder if I still like them. I'd appreciate any pictures of Targas with Carrera tails, Turbo tails, and duck tails, to help me decide. Opinions on what looks best on a targa are also welcome... Thanks!

Just my opinion - but on a Targa - either no tail - or a duck - nice car soup dragon - but I like the Carrera tail better on the coupe or cab

targa w/ no tail is AOK
congrats on the purchase of your 911! lets see some pics for gods sake....hehe
i just bought a gards red targa and can't be happier with how it looks. Personally I think the tail looks best with a coupe cause it accents those beautiful lines of the C pillars that are the reason coupes often get the "best looking" award over targas and cabs. Also, IMHO ducktails look good on impact bumper 911s but best on long hoods. here is my ride.

Allen,
Had my 85 Targa for 7 years without a tail and loved it. Now have a ducktail on it and like it even more. Any of the Porsche tails really stabilize the car at higher speeds so its up to your personal tastes. The "tea tray" works a bit better than the ducktail but I do not like the way it looks... Enjoy the new car! JoeA

Thanks guys for all these pics coming in... They all look great, but I
think I'm leaning towards a duck tail, or maybe no tail. 911SC Pilot and 1973911s, your cars are particularly nice! I'm liking those polished spokes... Another desire pof my from the past... Now, I'm going back and forth on blacked out spokes vs polished spokes... ahh, so many choices!

Soup dragon,
I like the black stone guards on your rear fender flares. Are these aftermarket, or are your rear fenders turbo fenders?

Steve,
No pics of the car right now. It looked just like Bill Verburgs a while ago. Considering that Bill's old engine is in the back right now, it should! ![]() Now is getting a backdate treatment and is in the middle of completing the 3.6 transplant, new front and rear ends and a long hood. We just moved the car info a workshop three days ago in Central Phoenix. Boss has been nice enought to let me use part of a place he has to finish the work on the 911 and restore one of my other cars there so it should be up and running shortly. Joe A

sometimes i like the tail sometimes i throw the stock lid back on......make sure you keep that option to swap lids.
i like the early turbo tails......the stock grill retains it's angle in the tail so you don't lose the line of the rear. imo of course ![]() here's mine with and without ![]() the second pic is a year ago
