Do you really like the center console?

For a street car, sans console looks good only if you've got the carpet to cover the unsightly "blank" area that is left, IMO. Also, the console is good storage space for wallet, keys, phone, etc. Of course, if one is after weight loss or it is a track car, it is a no brainer.

Mine's gone. I kept bumping mine with my leg, the AC never worked so the controls were useless and I don't mind the minimalist look.

My car came from the factory without a console. The center "well" was covered in carpet and then had a rubber like synthetic material sewn on the carpet between the foot wells. Very clean look and easy to clean.

For a years I thought the consoles were just after market dealer add ons for the American luxury market

- Noop - not at all. The wt. is very low. I'm a moderate in the Church of Light Wt. (even tho I founded it) so my goal is to have a fun street car, not the lightest thing ever. And, besides it's sitting in the garage being contemplated while FG panels are fitted to my car. Although Shannor-Weaver showed that there is a mass associated with thinking, that too is de minimis.

ok, silly question. when i was redoing my 78SC interior, i coud not figure out how to remove the center console. I mean, to do it correctly you need to remove the shifter knob. or cut the rubber boot off.
i could not get the shifter knob out, and i didn't want to bang on it, for fear of damaging the gear box. the knob appears to be pressed on to the shaft somehow.....any advice for next time?

Almost misread that as "porn again"...

I was born again after discovering that bone will remodel itself along stress vectors to maximize strength with minimal wt. Someday I'm gonna dig up a nice pic of a real light wt. strut for you guys...

I think the early ones just lift up after the screw(s) are removed - they fit over the boot. But I'm not sure about later ones - post your year and somebody will know.

The shift knob on your SC is held on with a 'crush' sleeve. In order to get it off you literally have to put a vice grips or similar instrument under it and hit up. You may or may not damage the shift knob in the process (and they are not cheap to replace).

Too new for me - if nobody posts re the console then just remove the screws and pull on it. Yes, the knob has a crush sleeve - just put an open end wrench under there and hammer on it. Pelican will have new ones.

guys, i just worry about damaging the gear box when banging on the handle. should i just shut up and not worry?

You could always take a Dremel and cut off the ring at the top of the shift boot and make a slit in the boot, if you don't mind going into surgery.

I have a couple of wires and that rubber material that dane talked about. I think I'm gonna leave it off. The car is mostly a fun street car that is my attempt to pay homage to the Porsche roots.

The next project is to definitely add a Carrera oil cooler. I'm hitting 210-220 on the way home from work (15 miles). Too hot. Anyone have a good used one?

It really is suprising to me every time that I use a small rubber mallet to "fix" something. My knob is loose enough to start moving if I really tug on it.(Big ol 'so to speak' on this sentence)

It's coming out. I'll put the extra gauges behind the radio panel.
