Tim,

Did you have any trouble welding onto the old muffler? I have heard from some guys that the lead on the inside can make it difficult to weld but had not tried.

The only trouble I has was that the steel was particularly thin where the PS outlet is placed. Have to go slow.

It was not too difficult Joe (easier than old contaminated aircraft exhaust stacks, harder than fresh .035" walled 4130 tubing). I also tig welded a few pinholes in other places on the muff and on a few of these, the thin outer wall would burn away easily exposing a larger hole to fill. One just needs to make sure to use standard practices of dealing with welding thin stuff. A newbie tig welder might have problems, but any tig welder that has experience with welding thin stuff will not have any problems.

I was shocked that my '79 SC still had it's original muffler (it was date marked 1978!). How many other brands of cars still have a relatively solid muffler usable muffler after 20-30 years of use!?

That sounds like a great upgrade, but what about performance? Any difference?

I did some timed 2nd gear roll on before and after times on a similar weather condition day and got basically identical stop watch readings.

This is an old post, but I still am using this muffler (usually with the second outlet uncapped). I still will probably buy a M&K eventually, as this muffler mod sounds a bit too "V8 musclecar-ish" to me. I like it better than stock, but Ben's M&K has a more appropriate sports car sound to me.

Has anyone else tried this mod? I have a cat bypass and am thinking about trying it but I'm worried about it being too loud or sounding "no so good".

I have seen several similar threads about this mod. I may be interested in this. Does anyone have any recent experience/tips on this modification.

In particular, does anyone have a sound clip of their exhaust using this mod?
