915 trans overflow?

Just rebuilt my 915 with new 2-5th gear & added Wevo shift gate.

At Mosport this past week I had at least a pint of trans fluid come out of the overflow tube. I suspected that it was because the car was thrown around allot in some corners. I cleaned it all up and went for a pretty ride on the street, only got stopped once, I guess it was the numbers and lack of real muffler that gave that away
After that I had a smaller amount come out, but definitely from the tube.

Is it possible that the the trans was simply overfilled? Or is the fluid getting so hot that it's coming out?
It was not replaced with swepco.

Never experienced this issue before. But I have never had the trans apart or filled the fluid.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

When in the car, and reasonably level the fluid is typically filled through the side filler hole until it runs out. This insures the correct amount. Did you fill the trans beyond this point? I’ve run Swepco in 915s and 901s on the track and auto-x filled this way for years without spillage

not sure. It was done at a shop. I assume and agree that should be the only way to fill it.

Assuming that it was overfilled some other way can this overflow happen from heat or another issue? Could they have filled it anyother way?

Check that the vent is oriented properly, it should point forward. If pointed wrong, it will do just as you describe.

Thanks chuck

I assume you mean the tube I can see from under the car?
It's straight down now.

If it's not the tube I can see, please point me in the right direction.

Thanks
John

Got some of your stuff on my ride. Planning a poly-bronze winter project! Thanks

Hi John

No, there is a vent on top above the R&P area right in the center. You can reach up there with your hand and feel the orientation. You can turn it if needed.

Ok I'll check. Thanks.

Any hints on what it feels like? Or where I can see a digram? Photo?

John:
The tube looks like a braided hose with a clamp holdining it up by the starter. It's got trans fluid dripping out of it after a while

somebody added that hose, it's not stock. the breather fitting is on the top center, above the diff housing, just behind where the bellhousing joins the diff housing. you can feel it and the hole with your hand. hole must face forward.

As JW stated, "hole must face forward."

Ah, yes the ole breather on the 915. Believe me I learned the hard way that it should point forward. I lowered the engine and trans to figure that out. And all thanks to MM for that since they couldn't figure it out after they had it rebuilt for me.

Angry

It looks like I just made this stupid mistake, I got transmission fluid everywhere.

I had just done a rebuild and took the vent out, when I put the vent back in I turned it towards the engine, I guess that wasnt a good idea.

Its fixed now. Vent hole pointed towards the front of the car.
