One of nicest 74's available?

I am hoping to test drive this car this week just so I know what this genre of 911 is like. There is NO way I am considering buying it.

Almost $27k for a 1974 911S? Yes, it is a very nice example and has low miles, but you would have to really be partial to the pre-galvanized mag-case 2.7s to fork over that kind of dough for one. Your average mid-year 2.7 goes for about $8k at best these days, so with any mileage and/or wear, that car's value will sink like the Titanic.
The only really desirable 1974 911 IMO is the Euro MFI Carrera (basically a `73 RS with impact bumpers). You could probably even find one for not much more than what Park Place wants for that car.

I think you need to do some research before you look at any more 911's. Seriously.

Collectable by whom?

I looked at a '77 with 44k on it here in Wichita, all original and mint. The guy wanted $15k for it, and I thought that was too much. It had a recent total rebuild with new P&Cs, and would have been galvanized unlike that '74. Basically, as good or better of a car, for 10k less. Keep looking. Do you know what you can buy in a 911 for that kind of cash?

$26K seems too high for this 74' although it does seem well kept and very unique. I have a 75', Gulf Blue that is also well kept and maintained and I would say it would be worth $17 or so on the market. To me it's worth more but people tend to shy away from 74' and 75's.

If you really want to spend that much, mine is for sale too!!! Heck, I'll even knock off a few thousand.

very nice car. I am partial to the '74s and I think they are under-rated by most people. However, as nice as that one is I think its asking price is a little high. I am also concerned by the cookie cutter wheels, it makes me think this is possibly a '911' not a 911s. The differnce would be in the brakes and it would be lacking a few h.p. compared to it's brother the 'S'.

Cheers

The 74's are definately underrated. They are lighter than their later midyear counterparts, and didnt' come with nasty things like 5-blade fans, catalytic converters, "updated" style heat. But this car is definately way overpriced. Cookie cutters and sugar scoops don't belong on a car asking 3-4 times it's real value.

JMZ, I always thought the S came with better brakes, however, I just noticed mine has cast iron calipers front and rear. Does the S really have better brakes? The S is also supposed to have front and rear sways compared to the normal 911.

Nowhere did I say that I was interested in over paying for any car nor did I say the price was fair. It simply is a very nice example.

The subject here isn't how much research you think I have or haven't done. I simply appreciate well kept cars regardless of the make, model, year or price.

For 27k you can get a completely immaculate 964 with 40k miles. Gimme a break.
