Yet another CIS issue -surging and popping

Ok, so I had to remove my CIS this weekend to replace the oil breather seal, and thermostat o-ring. Now I have an issue, the thing stinks like it's rich and it surges, and makes small popping noises from the exhaust. I have read through the archives for the last hour and it seems it may be out of adjustment, however it ran fine prior to removal So here is what I have:

I may have the AAR and the unit attached to the #2 intake runner on the drivers side swapped, maybe. How can I tell, they are both the same color plug?!?

I did all new gaskets to the intake runners, and new boots since the others were badly oil fouled.

In the archives it mentions the surging and popping as a lean condition, however I don't think I am running lean. I also have checked and double checked every hose and I don't think I have any type of vacuum leak.

Help please! I am desperate to get back on the road.

Scott, have you tried adjusting the mixture? It sounds like it's running rich. Perhaps you fixed some air leaks in your travels.

You are probably rich. - you replaced some gaskets, changed a couple of seals - you probably sealed a few small air leaks that were already compensated for in the mixture adjustment.

You can try swapping the plugs, but unless I'm mistaken, you shouldn't be able to swap them - you would clearly have a wire stretched from one side.

WB... LTNS. Thought you had a RS America

Thanks guys! To me the wire for tha AAR seems to be a bit tight, but it fits, and the other lead seems to have all the length in the world.

And it's good to hear from you again Juvy! The RS America was sold just five moths after I sold my 951 to "Will944." The wife wanted a new house built on a large piece of property so all of the toys went. But I'm back with this 80 SC that I found sitting near my house with a "For Sale" sign on it. And with my fondness for basket case projects I snatched it up!

Pull off the air cleaner(air filter) slightly push up or pull down on the Knuckle to sensor plate. see how the engine changes. If it does now, you may need to back off the mixtures(3mm allen) take it from 3 oclock to 1 oclock, if that does not change, there is a issue elsewhere.
