I talked with both Performance Parts and Pelican Parts today.
The pivot spring retainers carried by Performance Parts are 23 and 26 mm in size. They are for fixing a manual crank window regulator only. My pivot spring retainer is only 15 mm long at its longest dimension. This smaller pivot spring retainer is for the electric window regulator. Neither supplier carries the smaller 15 mm pivot spring retainer for the electric window regulator. It appears that all references above to a steel replacement part are for the manual crank window regulators.

Here is my solution for replacement of the electric window regulator pivot spring retainer.
I'm sure it can be improved upon, and I'd like to hear (and see) your solutions and improvements as well. This replacement involves a T-nut on the backside of the regulator, an angle bracket to retain the pivot spring, sleeve, and a 1/4-20 x 1/2" bolt to hold it all together. The T-nut was used because there is very little clearance on the back side of the regulator. The T-nut I used here has 1/4-20 thread, but plenty of other options are available. I cut the angle bracket from a piece of junk scrap that I had laying around. The sleeve is a piece of 1/2" square bar stock. I drilled 21/64" holes in the angle bracket, the window regulator, and the sleeve so that they could slide over the 'nut' end of the T-nut. Then I screwed in the bolt to hold everything together. Finally, I used a vise grip to grab the pivot spring and move it from it's temporary resting position (top post in first picture) to between the sleeve and the angle bracket. Question: Can someone tell me how many turns the pivot spring should have? I have 5 here, as I assumed that the spring didn't lose a winding when it came undone. Thoughts: 1. It would be great if a 'T-bolt' is available. Along with a threaded sleeve, these two pieces may be enough to retain the spring without the angle bracket that I have used. 2. My sleeve is way too much work. There must be something readily available that doesn't require fabrication (cut to length and drill job). 3. Although backside clearance is limited, the topside clearance is not so restrictive. 4. The angle bracket could be rotated 180 degrees and the pivot spring moved to the other side so as to give the pivot spring slightly more tension. Not sure if it is needed. 5. Getting the regulator out of the door is not as easy as Bentley makes it look. I hope getting it back in is easier! ![]() Back side of regulator showing the flat portion of the T-nut with 1/4-20 thread. The flat part is about 19mm long by 12 mm wide. Putting the regualtor back in the door
Hi Guys
I have just replaced the pivot pin on my 1976 911. It was not hard to get the regulator out just unscrew all the various bolts, pushed the bottom of the regulator towards the lock end of the door. I am having some difficulty in getting the spring tensioned onto the regulator. Does anyone have experience in how to get the spring tensioned? I am not looking forward to getting the whole regulator back in. Andrew

Get some 100lb test fishing leader. Make a loop. Clamp regulator and spring to table. Put loop around spring hook and pull untill you can hook it behind tab on regulator. Strong string would also work but the fishing line is thinner and I always have a lot on hand. good luck.

Yes, I lowered the whole unit to re-bed the glass, and remove the grease/wax and re-lube, I wanted to take a picture so I know how to replace the broken pivot pin on the drivers door I have on order.

Great post guys! I originally thought this was a manual window crack knob or something. My 2nd retainer popped a couple of months ago off the passenger side. The windows appear to work ok but now I have enough info to go tackle this one.

I reasoned that you use thespring to help raise the window so I positioned the regulator assembly in the "up" position before I wound the spring. It only takes about a quarter (or so) of a turn to slip it on.

Wow. I've been busy. Yes, I'm there. I am happy to see that my post from 2005 is helping someone out. We decided to sell our house last spring and build. The Turbolook was driven -once- last year. Very sad, especially since the trip was from my garage to winter storage while the new home is being built. The good news is that this year will be much better from a car enjoyment perspective. Can't wait!
