Rust and more rust...

With the assistance of KevinP73 at Automotive Innovations, I replaced the front hood seal on my car. Noise from the near metal-to-metal contact coming from the hood is down to nothing. Now, with the new seal in place, everything is quiet enough for me to hear the squeal from my right rear wheel bearing. /

Anyway, while changing the seal, I had a good look at what is located underneath the seal, which, yes, is metal, but very rusty metal at that. Afterwards, I hunted around the front trunk area, and found more rust in the area where the battery was formerly located. I'll have to address this very soon before the situation worsens. But I was wondering what other places on the 911 are great hiding spots for rust. What car part or what vicinity of the car do most people on the board check for rust?

Check under the sound proofing in the back seat area, and under the trim in the corners of the back window. Can be ugly.

Whatever fender the antenna is on. Near the bottom as it curls under the car. I took my 70 down to bare metal and that was the only place I saw rust.

Behind the door strikes and all down below that lock panel. It's very complicated down there with the jack receiver, the coming together of the longitudinal sections and the rear console, not to mention that the lock panel joins all of this from above. It's really a clusterf__ of unibody construction. And the rear tires throw water, sand, mud, etc. in there. If you live in the other LA, you might even find a frog in there.

LOL, Zeke! And how! Speaking of doors, another place for rust is inside the door skin. I've seen some pretty bad rust just below the rubber strip at the top of the door.

I had my door apart two days ago to fix a window that fell off its track (again, thanks Kevin for the help), and talk about a cluster****! The safety beam inside the door look like a girder from a building under construction.

How about the fender supports........that's what I'm about to deal with. Open your door, facing the front, poke a long screwdriver into the upper fender area and hope you don't hear the tell tale crackling of rusted metal.

Drago - it's no biggee...yet. Controllable and containable, I hope, otherwise a gavalnized 911 might be in the works...

Prior life for my car was a beach setting in Ventura. An aged surfer/real estate magnate had "forgotten" my car for some time, stumbled up on it in "one of his garages," and said, "Hmmm. I don't need this..." So, in this, some rust can be explained. Plus, we're talking about 32-year-old steel.

Or so was the line fed to me by the retailer from whom I bought the car.
