alternator light question
Just finished replacing the alternator in my 78SC , due to bearings gone bad. All connections on back hooked up exactly as the old one...belt tight...good to go. Start it up and the red dash alternator light stays on??? Never did this before. Should I have replaced the external voltage regulator at the same time?

Though I am probably the least experienced person on this board when it comes to maintenance issues (I'm trying to learn though), I had similar situation with my alt light and was told that it is likely related to the voltage regulator. Not sure if it has to be completely replaced, but it sounds like it's probably the source of the problem.

Did you fully charge the battery before starting the car with the new alt?

No, I didn't charge it..but it is fairly new and I haven't had any problems with it. Started very easily after installing the new alternator.
