Porsche Crest i need help

hi..guys will someone please help me, i bought a 1979 porsche 911 cp with no mechanical history what so ever, i think it has a cam, it sound like it does but im not sure, it also has a lot of compression comming out of the tail pipe. is that normal and the car is very fast, how can i tell if someone rebuilt the engine and mabe put a cam, also with no oil leaks thanks for the help.

Sly, It's hard to tell if your motor was modified without actually opening it up. Most experienced owners would be able to tell by just driving it hard especially on the track. Perhaps you could locate such a Porschephile at a track meet and ask them to take your ride out for a spin. By the way what's a 911 cp ? Never seen this designation before.

A few minutes on a dyno will provide you with HP and Torque curves that will reveal whether your engine is stock or upgraded. Might even show how well it's tuned. Much better info than someones "butt dyno".

I think cp stands for coupe.

Sylvester, there are lots of pelicans in the Houston area. Keep your eye on this board and the local board for our next get together.

The SC stock, is rated at 180HP....engine number will tell you what it started out as. 930/04 for US 49 states, 930/06 for CA.

Number is fainter than the serial number and located near the oil sender to the right of the crank pulley.
